Almost got blown off the highway several times by strong crosswinds on my drive over to the Wet Side today.

'course, my little Exploder has the aerodynamics of a brick, ya know...

Mission Ridge had peaks of 120 yesterday afternoon. I've seen it as high as 138, was up there one year when the average for the hour was in the 80's, peak was 135. Snowboarding was difficult to say the least.

Muir had an hourly average of 132MPH between 2:00 and 3:00 yesterday. That's the same as a Category 4 hurricane:

I wouldn't have wanted to ride that one out in the shelter; waiting for the roof to come off.

While not a meteorologist, I would imagine that the muir hut gets hit by a cat 4 hurricane winds force way more frequently than we generally think about. I bet that roof has had high winds many many times.

MIght need ear plugs though!

impressive numbers, love looking at the 10-day telemetry graph to watch the temp fall/rise as the wind does its thing.

wonder if the wind gets high enough, if it can provide any function in keeping the anemometer from icing up.

a buddy an I planned the windy day perfectly in the valley; we kayaked from eugene to corvallis, and due to the southerly wind, were able to paddle half the river with 25 mph gusts at our backs the whole time. It was perfect! we really needed a sail though.
