Not sure what your business is/was in the PRC, or why you feel the need to boast about your travels in this forum. Lots of folks have been to China--it's no big deal. You speak Chinese? Congrats. I speak Spanish and a fair amount of German. Nobody cares. In any event, I can assure you that touring with a group of your fellow whities and a government liaison in a micro-bus or a cobalt-blue Landcruiser doesn't amount to squat vis-a-vis your earlier 'spoon-fed' comments. Not sure how you come to this conclusion, but I'm well aware of the intentional and unintentional genocide that took place here and, in an even more pronounced way, the Caribbean and Central/South America. I'm not sure this even comes close to Mao's Cultural Revolution tally--if dead bodies is your metric. In any event, I have studied Chinese history (as well as Japanese, and Korean, and Vietnamese, and Micro/Mela/Polynesian, and Mexican, and South American, European and, oh yes, American) and I don't really view China as a threat to anyone--other than its own citizens. IMO, they've spent the last 600 years trying to atone for the Xuande Emperor's burning of Zeng He's fleet--and they're almost there. But I get annoyed when tools like TTK et al start singing the praises of the new China and inferring it is a model worthy of emulation. It clearly isn't--at least not yet.

 

Oh yeah, three more things:

I've also taken the bullet train between Pu Dong International Airport and Shanghai and where as a taxi or bus takes a hour, the train takes about 5 minutes, if that. May I suggest you learn to speak Chinese.

The irony is that China has been expanding their military exponentially over the last few years. They may not be in any shooting wars but their military complex is hard at work.
