Death Chimney at Index

Every time I walk past the Quarry Scar at Index, I see that giant death chimney on the left side. It goes all the way to the top of the wall (I don't know how high this is) and appears to fluctuate between huge nasty offwidth and chimney. It also has a ton of loose death blocks at the top. Has it ever been climbed? I'm wondering because it is quite possibly one of the scariest routes I have ever seen.

Probably waiting for a bold first ascent. Go for it, and don't forget to write it up on MtnProj.

I think it's listed as a 5.9 in Sky Valley Rock. Apparently there is/was a crack inside. I don't know for sure. I don't want to climb it.

If you go for the send, best bring a long stick to clean out the spider nests.

That chimney is not listed in SVR. However, it has seen one ascent by James and John. The rating is as they say a very "old school 5.9". It is a very very serious and runout climb that should not be attempted by a 5.9 climber. The name is "Stamper Holland".

I heard a story about FA party actually use a large board or hockey pads or something like that to protect the belayer. Sounds like a steller climb!
