tiaga Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Colin Haley and Bjorn-Eivind Artun are reported to have completed a 17 hr. tour of the Cassin Ridge. Sounds like a good trip, in spite of major snow and a dead stove. Early report just posted on Lou Dawson's Wildsnow BC Ski Blog by satellite. He tented next to them on the upper Kahiltna this week. http://www.wildsnow.com/3278/colin-haley/ Edited June 10, 2010 by tiaga Quote
Dane Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Nice! Thanks for posting the link. Those guys have been killing me with the lack of communication Their original plan was a new route on Foraker, the west butt+ski trip and finally a simu solo of the Cassin. Same pair did TWO one day ascents via different routes of the north butt on Hunter, both to the summit, so they should have some fun stories to tell when they get back. Congrads on a great trip! zeroforhire Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The record set by mugs stump still stands... nice. Way to get after it Colin and Bjorn! Quote
AlpineK Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Pretty rad It took us 12 days We do get credit for a couple storm days and difficulty in the NE fork of the Kahiltna but still. Way to go! Quote
tiaga Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) Colin Haley update from the Wildsnow Denali blog reporting on the 17th. Quoting Lou Dawson: "When we got to camp yesterday, alpinists Colin and Bjorn were two days overdue from getting a new route done on Mount Foraker. Base camp manager had watched them summit, then after that, no news. Thank God they stumbled in early this morning after battling their way through the storm. Colin got fairly severe frostbite on his toes, Bjorn looks a bit skeleton-like, but the two are alive." http://www.wildsnow.com/3303/kahiltna-denali-camp/ Amazing. Wishing the boys all the best. ryanb Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Last year around this time I ran into Colin and Bjorn on a sunny afternoon in the index parking lot... they said they had decided they were happy with what they had done in alaska and decided to move their plane tickets up and climb some dry granite. Then they hopped in colin's beat up station wagon and speed off to try to make it to rockfest in Leavenworth in time for free hot dogs shouting jokes out the window as they left. Good guys and I hope they find some sun and a few hotdogs to help them recover and plan the next trip. Quote
glassgowkiss Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 They went on and did a new route on Mt Foraker. Wishing him a speedy recovery from the frostbite. I like Colin's comment about this new route: "It makes Cassin look like Mt Si". Quote
JoshK Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Glad they are ok, and best of luck with a quick recovery and getting back out there. But how dare he speak ill of the mighty Mt. Si! Quote
