snoboy Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Oh yeah, it's the usual spot... give me a minute and I'll dig up the directions and post them... Quote
snoboy Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Date is set, snow is there, the highway is open... Make sure you book off the 1-4th for some corn harvesting and general cc.com style debauchery in the N. Cascades! We need some people to commit to a few items and tasks to make this run smoothly: BYO mugs! Firewood - more the better. We are guests on DaveP's friends land, and if we leave a little extra wood, that would be a good thing. Ice - For the lemonade Picking up a garbage can of snow at the pass on the way from Seattle is a good option. Chairs - There never seem to be enough... if you've got a couple extras, and some space, throw them in! Charcoal - There's a couple of old style grills there, and a bag of charcoal would be handy indeed... Breakfast goods - Usually we end up doing at least one big group breakfast, pancakes and the like. Bring what you like, and a little to share... Water - Bring your own. There is washing water available from the river or the pump, but you will want your own drinking water supply. There may be a portapotty on site. David Parker says: DIRECTIONS TO THE CAMPOUT LOCATION: Traveling east over WA Pass: The property/cabin is approx 4.5 miles past the turn off to Mazama on the North side of the road. It is also approx .8 miles before you cross the Wyman bridge over the Methow river where the Goat Creek rd. merges. (so traveling w. on Hwy 20 look for it on the right about .8 miles after crossing it) There is a metal gate which is now locked. The fencing is zig-zag style stacked railing. If you intend to arrive before Friday evening sometime, please call me at 206-714-4300 for the combo. You do not need a SUV to get in. Any regular car is fine. The driveway meanders back into the woods. The tent camping area is accessed via the left at the fork when you see the cabin. Bring drinking water or expect to hike 1/4 mile to the river to get it. There is a hand pump well, but the water has some iron in it. Also, bring fire wood if you can. All I ask is that you leave the property in better condition than we found it! The driveway turn off is at N 48.54950 W 120.34101 on the N side of SR20. Quote
RocNoggin Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 count me in! although I could use a ride back to Seattle. I have a ride up to the pass on Friday but could use a ride down to the camping and back to Seattle on Sunday. on Friday we are doing the Birthday Tour if anyone wants to join us. my partner has to return to Seattle that night, working the weekend shift, so I am looking for a ride the rest of the weekend. will help pay for gas of course! also, by Sunday the weather is forecasted to be rain likely up at the pass, snow above 6100', so if anyone is interested in rock climbing down in Mazama, if its dry enough, I would be interested in a climbing partner. tanstaafl Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I'd be interested in the BD tour on Friday and could give you a ride to the camping afterwards, though I'll most likely be heading to Leavenworth that night so can't offer a sunday ride home. shoot me a pm. Quote
snoboy Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 tanstaafl - you should stick around for at least one day of Ski In, no?? I'm keen to do Birthday Tour this year, but I won't be able to play on Friday. Also want to do something on Kangaroo Ridge, pick off another of the chutes perhaps. Also keen to get up to the Cutthroat area even though it got nixed as an idea last year for being too mellow. Sounds like I'm going to have to prioritize if the weather really is gonna go that way... Hmmmm.... Quote
jshamster Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I'll be there Friday night. Looking to skin and shred Sat. & Sun. Only a couple of days shy of 100 this year! I'm good for some firewood for supplies. Cheers. Jimbo Quote
fredrogers Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Ooops. Missed Wayne's earlier post- sorry. Rock is plenty dry at Fun Rock- had a lovely afternoon of craggin there today. A little dirty and the usual spring looseness here and there since it hasn't seen a lot of traffic yet. No porta poty yet and I'm sure the folks at Outward Bound would not mind a donation (box in the lot, on the message board) to help pay for the cost of it. Should be installed soon. I have not made the trek up to Prospector yet since, well, it's still ski season. Early Winters CG is bone dry, I would suspect that there is still some snow here and there at Klipchuck, but it was so dry down in the Valley this winter it's doable if the road is melted out. Lone Fir is still blocked by a big snow berm. Any of the CG's up Lost River Road (Ballard, etc) would be a good choice, too. The mosquitoes seem to be out in force already, so make sure to surround yourself with lots of smoke. sickie Rode part of the birthday tour last weekend, but it was so firm we just skinned back up Mad Ave and rode Spire back to the cars. Top of Spire has bunch of cornice debris, but lower down was good and there is a nice bootpack up it. Big slides have come down across the traverse back from Hidden Bowl with lots of chunkage, so check yer speed. Tomorrow will be the first really warm day we've had in a while, so keep a head's up for slide activity. Public service announcement: do note that parking is very, very limited- try and carpool as best you can to leave room for others- and don't park in the slide paths below Liberty Bell. If they go it will be tomorrow or Saturday. Extra bonus- the Mazama store is closing out all their winter beers at $5.50 a sixer... and all their food rocks- their mounds bars are the best energy food going. Can some one PM with the location? I'd like to swing by and say hi to all you folks. I'll be up at the Pass on Saturday, so maybe I'll run into you there. I'll be the guy on the green splitty with a bunch of tele skiers. Quote
snoboy Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Location is in the 2nd post down on this page... Quote

AlpineK Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 It was fantastic! The Skiers had a blast and a rad ski/adventure today. I hear the climbing part of the group had fun on some of the newer routes.
