Bug Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 Be careful Nadia. There are some on this site who advocate "just getting out there and leading" to gain experience. That is not cool. It will get you killed. Quote
Dru Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 But if you are successful you can sell a book with pictures of all the people who took our advice and died learning to lead. You see the corpse piles every time you go near Barney's Rubble or Mountie Dome. I bet the yuppies who bought Into Thin Err would buy your book too! Quote

So would you suggest free soloing? Perhaps when you have had good friends die doing things that "everyone does" you will mellow out a little bit. Quote

Ya like 6 of my friends died in a car crash in 1990... Im so mellow now. "everbody drives"? Nadia send a pm to a guy named erik on this site he likes to go climbing with beginners. Quote
Bug Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 I am sorry to hear about your friends dying in a car crash. Seriously. I have known two people who fell to their deaths on 5.5 and 5.7. One was a 5.11 leader freesoloing 5.7, the other was a newbie on lead. She was "very athletic" and kept up with everyone at everything. But she made one mistake 40 ft off the ground on her second lead, pulled two pieces, and landed on her head. Her climbing friends who were there cheering her on weren't very happy with their decision. Just a little anecdotal information there. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. Quote
vegetablebelay Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 Ok I hate to be part of the spelling police but when you spell FLOURISH incorrectly in your sig and we have to see it every time you post well, someone has to say something. Quote
KeithKSchultz Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 Hi Nadia. If you are not running for your life, send me a PM. I have been trad climbing for many years and would be happy to go out for an afternoon or two. I have all the gear and have taught lots of people. My focus is on having fun and being safe. Quote
Bug Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Shit. I can't do anything right. Good thing I'm only a dumbshit bug. Quote

Dave_Schuldt Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Why has this devolved into a spelling bee? Quote

Zee Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 how about giving this person an answer relevant and worthwhile rather than going on a tangent about this and that? It seems as if the old boys club is always in full swing with a lot of BS and worthless info! Quote
nobody Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Nadia: You may want to provide more informaton as far as your experience, the type of climbing you want to do (sport, ice, alpine, basic mountainering, etc.) And also include what your avaiability is, roughly anyway. Are you a weekend only person? Weekdays? Info like that will help those out there that might be willing to help. Good luck.... Quote
Bronco Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Zee: you don't think that Dru's last post was relevant?? Like your whiner post really helps [ 02-26-2002: Message edited by: Bronco ] Quote
erik Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 i guess it has been mentioned above already but i am willing to help anyone....... Quote
imorris Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Forget the f'ing spelling bee. It's devolved into a damn game of Pictionary. Here's my contribution. Just try to load this page on a modem now. Quote
