hemp22
climber fell from high first clip on Revelations, broke his ankle, and earned a 2-minute spot on the local news. You can watch the dramatic coverage, including hard-hitting commentary by local climbers, here.
rbw1966
"Safe climbing starts with knowing your limits" I love the shot of the guy eating beans.
bstach
Why is the first bolt 20ft off the ground?
G-spotter
Ummmm because that's where it got put when the line went up?
billcoe
In about 1802, and this may be the first accident on the route.

eldiente
How is this news? Some guy rolled his ankle playing tennis last night at the local Y, where is the film crew? The bolt is actually in a good spot and not all that dangerous as the landing is flat and sandy. Although for the new leader this might not be best choice of routes to break into the grade. I'm not even sure if you could get that bolt with a clip stick, it is a ways up there (how tall are clip sticks anyway?)
ivan
a sport climber getting hurt while climbing aint' news? now if it was a trad-ie...
Dan_Miller
Got to love those gear close-ups! It really 'puts' the viewer almost on the rock. Doesn't it? Since when did rock routes become "courses"? It's not a goddamn country club. It's as though they thought he chose a too difficult golf course for his current skill level. Again the News hasn't any clue. So it goes.
letsroll
"more than 1000 climbing trails" got to love that.
markwebster
You can place a couple reasonably good small wired stoppers on the way up to that first bolt. I rarely do it anymore though...runout routes suck and the people who put them up are selfish prima donnas. Myself included, as I put up a couple runnout routes in my younger days. RuMR
its not a runout route...
rbw1966
That first bolt is a bit committing, but thats not unusual for Smith.
Winter
Sux that guy broke his ankle, but I can just imagine that young TV reporter for the Bend station going out to Smith when he gets the report of an accident and then trying to figure out how to dramatize a broken ankle. Couloir
Interject some unsanctioned, mid-route assplay, and you might have a story.
