rmncwrtr Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Lots of people showed up at the Lucky Lab tonight to buy the Ozone guidebook and support Kevin Rauch and his family. Thanks to all who put on the event. It was a great time! You deserve a big for doing this for your friend. I can only imagine the work that went into the guidebook, auction and promo to make this all happen. Thanks to the Lucky Lab, too! I arrived just after six with the kids. A good thing we got in line right away. The lines got very, very long as the night progressed. The first person I saw was Bill Coe. I got a hug and a where's your camera. When I said I couldn't find mine and thought it might be in Austin with hubby, he offered to get his from the car! Thanks Bill and for letting me take the camera home tonight! :kisss: I must admit was curious what other pictures might be on the memory card when I downloaded and it was just as I expected knowing Bill....porn....gear and climbing porn, that is As for the fundraiser, you could buy a guidebook (some cc.comers are featured in pics) and bid on all kinds of stuff at the silent auction. They also raffled off an iPod. Even though this wasn't an official cc.com event, cc.comers were out in force. And not just the regular PDX crew. Pink was in town and Minx even showed up! A few memorable moments from the evening: Meeting Pink for the first time. He does not have horns and a tail. At least none that I could see Introducing Pink to John Frieh and seeing the surprised look on John's face. Having my daughter run up to me and ask me if a guy in line was Zach, the guide we always use at Smith Rock, and it was him. Being called over to the bar and being introduced to a woman and realizing (since she'd told me her first name in pms) that this was the infamous Minx. She let me take her picture, but only from the back. Anyway, it was a really fun time and here are some other pictures of cc.comers, their friends and SOs: Also a big thank you and :kisss: to John Frieh for watching and entertaining my three kids tonight so I could walk around, take pics and have some adult conversations without worrying! There were lots of hard working crew there working their tails off so that their friend could be feited and honored, and it was so inspiring to see - I mean that was so uplifting: thank all of you - you who pitched in, those who donated so many things for the silent auction, and you who showed up with your dollars, for making my heart soar so much. What a great evening for Kevin Rauch. I asked him as we were looking around the room early on..."have you ever seen anything so bodacious?" and he was almost giggling he was so thrilled. Great pics Mel, thank you again! _______________________________________________________________________ BTW, I didn't mind the Portland Rock Gym donations getting snagged from me, it was good to see them get bid up - but to Olaf, who snagged the donated one of it's kind in the world Cilogear Big Wally prototype pack right out from Kyle Silvermans nose the last second, you got the deal of the day. I wasn't bidding on that because Kyle is my friend, we get out all the time together, and I already have an original. If you want to sell it, let me know.

Results are impressive, but we won't be sharing any numbers till a bit later. Y'all should be proud though, I will say that. (The iPod raffle alone brought in nearly $800!) Also, anyone who didn't get a book but wants one, let me know. I've got a stash at home and we'll be selling them till they're gone. Thanks again for making this whole endeavor a success.

jon Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 That is really great everyone got together to support Kevin. ALS is really a devastating disease and the cost of care is enormous as it progresses. On a side note my good friends dad has ALS so I keep pretty current on the literature. The last couple years they really have made some significant progress on elucidating the mechanisms involved in disease pathogenesis and it appears they might have viable mice model which is a huge step. Additionally it appears they might have a mechanism to target that could reduce the pro-inflammatory response in the disease, which if a therapeutic is found, could greatly reduce the rate of disease progression. Lastly for Kevin's friends some hope. My friend's dad disease progressed quite rapidly and we didn't expect him to be with us last christmas. Thankfully the progression stalled, he was with us for the birth of his first grandson, and has not progressed much since. There are cases, like Stephan Hawking, where progression just stops.

minx Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 its always hard for me to say something nice about kevbone, but i will this time. this was an excellent event. great participation and planning. kevbone and the rest of the people involved in getting this event done did a great job. it was nice to meet some of the portland folks that i haven't had a chance to climb with before. i had a great time. please remember the camera adds 10 pounds!

I think we honestly expected the event would be a success thanks to the positive feedback we were getting from cc.com and the entire Pacific Northwest climbing community, but we were still overwhelmed and overjoyed at the turnout. Everyone who had anything to do with this event should be proud to be a par of it, and please know that it wouldn't have happened without you. Also, if you had to wait in line at the end, sorry, but we were onsighting the auction process and it turned out to be harder and more sustained than we expected. The free beer people kept feeding me also let me take a few liberties while on the microphone so sorry for any offensiveness. Kind of. It got the job done.

Yeah, like Mark says, it was good to meet you Minx: although wasn't this suppose to be a secret that you were there? BTW, your front view is much better than that picture suggests up there. You have a natural bright and cheery countenance that is very uplifting, you should have let Mel take a regular pic of you or at least your cheery face. Hope you got a route in before the rain (or despite the rain). PS, I'm glad you got to meet and learn that Kevbone's heart is in the right place, despite how it sometimes comes off on this web site on occasion.
