olyclimber Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 i have always believed...but what have we done lately? the moon is a long ways away from anything humankind has done since. what up with that? are we too busy blowing our wad on war, when we could be colonizing mars? what happened to the future? gracias, le guin. akhalteke Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 We landed a vehicle on and asteroid, another on Mars and shot one out of orbit. I think these are pretty damn cool. The reason there is no more crazy shit: No cold war. Quote
minx Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 no, that was bedtime story your mom used to read to you. you're confused Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 It depends on what your into. Manned space exploration is political street theatre. Unmanned space exploration is science. With probes orbiting Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, an asteroid, and soon Mercury, and another probe headed for Pluto, the discover of extra solar planets, the great orbiting observatories, and several comet rendezvous, space exploration has been pretty cool in my book since Apollo, excepting the world's most expensive erector set (ISS) and least reliable tinker toy (shuttle). Fairweather Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Gotta go with the Tvashbag on this one...and SOHO, Chandra, and a couple others, IMO, have opened up our horizons to an even greater degree than the planetary probes mentioned. I'd say NASA and JPL have done well. I am curious about that Lunar He3 though. Quote
AlpineK Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 A lot of crazy stuff has been happening on the moon, but I guess nobody's been watching it on TV 8DF9nDJZrdA This was in 1999. Just think what they're doing now. Quote
olyclimber Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 you guys are right. i just wanted to go to the moon and check it out, and that space shuttle and space station are boring me to tears. the mars stuff is cool, i want to drive that thing around and dig some shit up on mars. Quote
minx Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 trouble with the flight to mars, is that there's likely to be a long lay over on the moon. if you miss your connecting shuttle, you're screwed Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Why would you need a layover on the moon? You can go there anytime you like. Did you mean a layover on Mars because of the 2 year launch cycle? Quote
mike1 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 only these guys can tell you the truth: Hard to be in space without both of your gloves! Quote
