crackers Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 How's life in Portland? My wife's got a job interview out in Portland in two weeks. So we might move...Any thoughts? Quote
rob Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I think if you live in Portland you have to climb at Smith a lot, so it's got that against it.... Quote
kevbone Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Why do you hate smiff? Portland rules......there are 5 climbing areas in the portland area not includind smith. Quote
crackers Posted June 12, 2008 Author Posted June 12, 2008 Well, I'd love to clip bolts again for awhile...Climbing in the NorthEast, you don't see many bolts except at rumney. But I'm not sure I'm cool enough for Smiff. Will they let me in? I kinda doubt it... Quote
kevbone Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Clip bolt? There is a ton of traditional climbing in Ptown..... Quote
crackers Posted June 12, 2008 Author Posted June 12, 2008 I don't think I own gear that's big enough...i've got doubles of everything up to red alien, and almost nothing bigger...anyway. Â is there actually climbing in ptown? Quote
kevbone Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 is there actually climbing in ptown? Â Â Yes there is actual climbing in the city limits. Quote

Hugh Conway Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Portland is a midsized to small city with a large population of under 35s with dispoable income, real estate prices are generally low and a nice lifestyle can be afforded if you can find decent employment. The generally sucky nature of the OR job market makes the last part the problem. Quote

They are currently leaning towards a toll bridge. You think a toll bridge is going to be significantly faster? Quote

For my company, it would probably be a wonderful change of scenery. I've heard you can buy a decent house for $500k, which won't pay for a 1 bedroom condo here in NYC. Quote

For international air service there isn't much - AMS & FRA in europe, NRT in asia. Quote
layton Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Vancouver, BC >> Seattle >> Portland >>>>>>>> Vancouver, WA Â Well put! Quote
Winter Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Portland rocks. The climbing scene kicks ass, and there's tons of stuff within a days drive providing endless opportunities for adventure. Quote
Off_White Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Strictly as a city, not a location? I'd put Portland over Seattle. I really like that town. Easier access to the North Cascades is a pretty good trump card though. Quote
