dietcookie Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I'm looking to climb something in August, nothing more difficult than perhaps a class 4/5 route. I'm from San Diego so I'll be flying up to either WA or OR. But there has to be some of the good stuff up there (snow!!). I know it's hard to judge conditions for the future and we are experiencing a heat wave this week, but typically what mountains in the cascades are covered in snow (or somewhat)? I considered Rainier but I'm doing that in May next year with some buddies so I gotta wait till then. What are some options? Quote
ken4ord Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 There are a whole bunch of stuff like that, what make the most sense is to go to the partners foru and try to hook up with some to go climbing. That way you reduce your risk of not finding the trail head or climbers trail leading to whatever it is you want to climb. Quote
glm Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 The Tooth is always in. I am, however, confused about that tagline about bagging a cougar. I admit that trying to put a cougar into a bag is, indeed, a truly sporting activity, but I'm not sure why you would attempt this or where you would get a bag large enough. Quote
EWolfe Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Mondo Ridge Second ascent, Dude! sickie :[] skull Quote
wayne Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Go for MonGo! That thing may never see a 2nd ascent , unless somebody from North Carolina comes out here Off to the Can Rockies, later! 2 Quote

Usually just putting a bag over the head (Ben Franklin technique) is enough. Quote

Literally somebody from North Carolina, came out and did the second ascent of mongo! This happened last month and I made my prediction 17 years ago. 1 1 Quote

Particularly impressive prediction given that Mo and Emilio were probably like 12 years old when you made it! 1 Quote

Haha. When Wayne pioneered this, Emilio was 12 just moving from Equador and I was a chubby 14 year old just starting to run. Seeing this post makes it really feel like fate! The North Carolina reference also makes so much sense. Certainly some of the most BURLY and stellar climbing in the US. The linville gorge is worth a trip for any climber who likes the traditional ways and gorgeous nature. Just look at the Open Book!! 1 Quote
tanstaafl Posted August 5 Posted August 5 wow that is purty. After getting my ass handed to me in the Chehalis this past weekend I am dreaming of climbing that involves more actual climbing and less walking/slogging/schwacking/hauling yourself hand-over-hand up tree branches. Quote
AlpineK Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Das Tooth is on the must climb list. Other peaks to consider soloing include Sahale. A few years ago, I had fun soloing the West Ridge of Forbidden. There are no extended sections of upper 5th Class climbing. Quote
