lancegranite Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Last week while we were gone to work, my dog got in a brawl with my cat. The end result was the little guy got his neck broke. It was a real mess. I like to think of my self as a tough guy but I fuckin' really miss that little guy... a gentle little creature for sure. The dog?... I just don't know. It's just a bad scene all the way around. Quote
pink Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 sorry to hear that. dogs fighting with cats sounds about right. feeling a little guilty about now. Quote
rob Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 When I was a kid, my brother's dog killed my cat, so I know how you feel. Rough. Quote
pink Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 i want to hear a story about someones cat killing their dog. Quote
Dechristo Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I had a basement apartment where the windows were at normal height and the sidewalk outside was at the level of the bottom of the windows. One summer day, I heard a commotion outside and looked up to see a cat running for it's life past the windows with a big dog hot on it's heels. Within a minute, I heard the sound of a dog ky-yighing in fear and pain growing closer and I looked up through the same windows to see the same pair running back in the opposite direction from a moment before - with the cat, the nails of all four feet dug-in, riding upon the dog's back. It was one of those moments where, although alone, you laugh your ass off. Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 My guess is that your dog didn't grow up with cats around. Might not be a good idea to get another cat. Our dog is good pals with one of our cats. They sometimes nap together. The other cats barely tolerate the dog and she leaves them alone for the most part. Quote
Off_White Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 That's really a drag Lance, must have been horrible to come upon the aftermath. Tough guys get sad too, you have my sympathies. Quote
rob Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 At least when this is all over, you will be able to write a really fucked up country song. Quote

TrogdortheBurninator Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 That sucks, sorry to hear that. Out of curiosity, what kind of dog is it. I've heard some dogs (i.e. huskies) can be completely fine with cats for years, when all the while they have been secretely waiting for an opportunity to attack. Basic instinct I guess. Quote
Winter Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Sorry to hear that man. I had to put my cat down last year - best friend for 13-14 years. Rough. I feel your pain. Cats rule. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Damn. That's pretty fuct!! When dogs come around my house, my five cats gang up on them. Quote
carolyn Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 damn! That is really sad! Im sorry to hear about your cat. As someone who has an older cat and is beginning to come to terms with her not being here in the near future, I empathize with your loss. Hang in there! Quote
jordansahls Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 i want to hear a story about someones cat killing their dog. You’re in luck then. My great Grandpa was a hunter for the Government during the great depressions. He kept a Lynx kitten as a pet and it killed there dog when it got older. Ripped out the dog’s throat, poor scruffers! dbconlin Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 whoah, what a day to hear your story. I got a cat recently and it has been doing really well with our dog. today is their first day home alone together while we are at work. i hope i don't come home to what you did! Quote
lancegranite Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 You know, this whole situation has been really difficult. What do you do now? We would rehome her, but now she's a killer. We would keep her, but now she's a killer. We could kill her, but now time has passed, and it gets harder every day you don't kill her. She's a happy, friendly, healthy...cat killer. Quote
carolyn Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Boy, Lance. I understand that sometimes animals get put to sleep if they kill. I was bit by my neighbors dog when I was a kid, a dog who knew me well. It was a bad enough attack that the adults opted to put him to sleep. I felt HORRIBLE! Not to mention losing my best friend over it (it was her dog). How long have you had the dog? Could the dog be given to a home with no other pets? Maybe contact your local humane society and ask them for suggestions? or your vet? Im feel for you. Im really sorry you are going through this. Keep us posted on your decision. Quote
lancegranite Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 Free dog Likes to climb, good on the trail. Enjoys a loving, fun home. (Convicted killer) Quote
chirp Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I own 2 cats and 2 dogs, the lab gets along like magic with the cats, the Rott puts up with them but often gets grumpy. I say keep your dog, you have vested love in it, would be cruel and sad to get rid of it. Just keep it till it moves on and then consider getting another cat. No use putting a loved animal back into the system, esp since it has a record only you can know. If my Rott killed my cat I would be pissed and give it hell but I also realise they are animals that operate on an instinct level only the can truly recon with. Quote
Dechristo Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 ...instinct... ...recon[reckon]... . These two share little company. Quote
