W Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Not sure how influential he was, but Mark Knopfler has always been one of my favorite guitarists. Has a very definitive personal style and sound. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 M. Schenker, and Randy Rhoades. How could I forget Schenker, UFO hardcore. I would guess that since the RHC started in the 80's that we should include John Frusciante. Anyone who can play that many Zappa tunes has got a gift Quote
kevbone Posted November 21, 2006 Author Posted November 21, 2006 (edited) Mark Knopfler If anyone cares. Mark does not play with a pick. Edited November 21, 2006 by kevbone Quote

ScottP Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 "I practiced twelve hours a day, every day, until my fingers were bleeding, trying to get the same sound as Elmore James. This went on for weeks and weeks, and finally someone told me, 'He plays with a slide.'" - Robbie Robertson, at the 1992 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony honoring Elmore James Quote

fenderfour Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Van Halen was the main protagonist of the 80's guitarwankfests. He was directly responsible for jackass virtuosos applying strange devices like vibrators and electric drills fitted with picks to their instruments. He did have a huge influence, and thankfully, it largely went away. Hendrix, Vaughn, Iommi, and Lennon pretty much defined the genres of today. BTW - Vic Wooten is the shit. Quote
