MarkMcJizzy Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 (edited) Kurt is slated to have his removed skull piece re-installed on Thursday, November 16. This is a milestone event in his recovery, and should allow him to travel with less concern. He should be in the hospital until the following Saturday. Edited November 13, 2006 by Off_White Quote

sobo Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 who is Kurt Fickeisen? using "Kurt" as the search object, in subject only, newer than 1 year, returns a plethora of results. I give you the original thread as a starting place... The search function is such a wonderful thing. I'm extremely glad to hear that Kurt has reached this phase of his recovery. One of our mountain rescue unit members suffered a similar accident two years ago (header from the top of a 20-foot ladder), and when they finally put his hunk o' head back in, he was back in the mountains within a few weeks after that. Go get 'em, Kurt! Quote

ZimZam Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Drove from NJ to Harborview this summer fo a visit. Nurse said he was resting. Never got back. Nice to hear. Attaboy Kurt. Quote
minx Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 YAY! he probably doesn't need that extra hole in his head. glad it's getting fixed Quote
MarkMcJizzy Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 Kurt's noggin is 100%, and he was sent home from the hospital at least a day early. It appears as though his motor skills and abilities have taken a quantum step upwards. There is about a 100% improvement since about a week ago Quote
Dechristo Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Wow! That's got to be a great encouragement. Quote
AlpineK Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Hey, I just wanted to make a post and let you know how I'm doing. I don't remember much of the accident. What I do remember is the whole process took forever. The important thing is I'm out of the hospital and I feel a lot better. I went back to the hospital last thursday and thats when they stuck my skull bone back together. I was out of the hospital on friday and since then I've been hanging out at home. The doctors tell me that the operation went well. While the surgery is done I've still got more to do. Right now the doctors want me to do a bunch of physical therapy. Basically I need to do a bunch of exercises to strengthen my legs and arms. Anyway while I've got more to do things are looking up. I'd love to get back to skiing and climbing. It will all happen eventually just not overnight. Thanks to everybody that came by the hospital and my house to visit me. Quote
Dechristo Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 So glad you're well on your way in the recovery process. Question: Can we yet abandon the scheduling of dozens of your faithful friends keeping an hourly watch over your gear? We now think Olyclimber has given up hope of stealing it all. Quote
AlpineK Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 My gear is safe and waiting my return to climbing. Oly probably wouldn't know what to do with my stuff. Quote
olyclimber Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I wouldn't know how to strap on the leather mask Quote
archenemy Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 You mean the one you posted on eBay last week? Quote
AlpineK Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I figure you already have one and would be bummed if somebody tried to steal it. Quote
ken4ord Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Frick yeah Kurt!!! Awesome news. Good to hear your skull replacement went well. I had do PT for a while cause of an injury, my sole focus was to come back stronger than I was going in. It was great having a goal and seeing the progress, though slow at times. When I did get back out it was on WI4 ice climb. Hope your PT is just rewarding, you have kicked ass so far. Quote
