wayne
My pleasure. That what is so wrong with these winter shows. All fired up and nowhere to go. Now does last Augusts-Colin-show make sense?
stamati
Anyone know if this has seen another ascent?
Sol
I believe it has not.
JasonG
The Pole of Remoteness is no joke. This summer I was marveling at how far back in there it is. Here I thought we were "committed" on the NF of Terror, then I looked over my shoulder at Mongo Ridge and laughed. Wayne set the bar! wayne
There are parties interested in repeating it though. I have given several beer intensive beta sessions with young aspirants. Last summers weather would have been perfect for trying. I cant think of a funner route.
stamati
Yeah the weather last year was excellent and stable. Wish I felt ready for it last year! Maybe I can pick your brain about it at some point this year? Jason, it feels like every time I look at it it gets farther and farther away! No joke indeed! I was wondering about Goodell Creek.... Such an aesthetic approach on a map, but what kind of schwack would that entail?
wayne
Shwack? Mega. I have to say its not just the approach, you would still have to get down too. Easiest way down is back to the East Fury and then Access Creek. re: Goodell: There is an extra cliff band guarding the start down there too, The Beckey Guide photo also points out a waterfall. The "direct start" would add another 500+ feet on to an already large task.
JasonG
Fury is the center of the bushwhacking universe. I think Wayne settled on the only semi reasonable way to access Mongo.
kmfoerster
I think a certain couple got the second ascent of this recently…

wayne
Yes, they should have a report up soon! The only caveat is they did not summit the pole of remoteness but they are the first people to do the whole ridge in one day! Cheers to the conquerors!
