E-rock Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 If you were going to buy a solo belay device RIGHT NOW, what would it be? and why. I'll purchase it online right away if you tell me too. I'm thinking about the Yates Rocker. Quote
Alpinfox Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I would use the Search function as a solo belay device. Might I suggest using "+Solo +belay +device" as your search terms? Quote
E-rock Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 Already did that, smart guy, and I've formulated some basis for opinion using those resources. Just curious what people I may happen to KNOW, think about it. Quote
G-spotter Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 A tab of blotter is 5 bucks Then freesolo. But it can be hard to order online. Yates Rocker is nice. It will hold a higher force than the others before it severs the rope. Quote
LUCKY Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 The USHBA basic ascender I gave my Rock Exotica Soloist to Yoder it was mank! The cinch has rope drag. The gri gri just was not made for soloing. Quote
genepires Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I like the ushba handle-less ascender. The crazy czeck who owns the climbing store in squamish swore by it and it is very smooth. I have used the rock exotica (petzl now) microsender with good results too. heard good things about the yates. I assume you are talking about solo tr'ing? Not solo leading? Quote
G-spotter Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I assume you are talking about solo tr'ing? Not solo leading? Do you think that's why the thread is called "solo belay devices for toproping"? I wonder if... Quote
Billygoat Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Yates Rocker = Smooth Yates Rocker = positive catches All else = Quote
cj001f Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Petzl Shunt? sucks. so does the Gibbs. The Soloist feeds better with smaller ropes, but it's still meh Quote
bigbro Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Has anyone used the CAMP Lift? It seems very similar to the USHBA basic but about half the price ~$36. Quote
