approach times to nada lake via snow creek

what's the approximate mileage/time for an average person (not a sloth, but not a speed hiker) to hike from the snow creek trailhead to nada lake. i'd be carrying a small day hiking pack (5 - 8 lbs) at most.

 

i'm looking to possibly head up there with some friends for a day hike, and would just like to know what to expect with regards to mileage/time.

Nada Lk is a little more than 5 mi. from the trailhead and maybe 3500 ft. of elevation gain; you should be able to dayhike to it at a leisurely pace in 2.5 hrs. or less. You should consider stretching the hike to Snow Lakes, which is another 1.5 miles and maybe 1,000 more ft. of vertical. Have fun.

That hike is not super scenic, really. I wouldn't just hike in there for a mere day romp but hey it's your time not mine. Might be better to just add 30 minutes one way and go up to snow lakes. Better scenery there.

 

It's about 2 hours or even less depending on how fast you move and how many breaks you take.

my first trip into the Enchantments was thru Snow & Nada, we returned to the trailhead only to learn that Elvis had died .... ever since I've always gone thru Aasgard

I second the suggestion to continue to Snow Lakes. And don't forget to explore the boulder field on the north side of Nada Lake, the trail will take you right by it: huuuge boulders stacked to create a warren of caves and hiding places, with a stream running underneath it all.

if we head up there, we'll most likely continue to snow lake or lake viviane. i just used nada lake as a point of reference for how long it would take to get past all the 'lowlands' and to some 'alpine' terrain.

You didn't ask this question, but if you want a slightly shorter hike to larch trees and views of granite peaks, Colchuch Lake would be a good choice.

Actually, I saw Elvis the last time I was in the Enchantments. He was doing a new sick solo line on Dragontail.

thanks mattp! we'll have somewhat limited time, so that may be a better option this time around.
