I saw mention somewhere of something named the Pacific Northwest Trail that apparently travels from the Pacific ocean on the WA coast to Glacier NP in Montana. Has anybody heard of this??

Yes, I have heard of this and once met a guy who was doing it in Polebridge, MT (west side of G N.P.). It follows near the Canadian border a lot of the way and sometimes uses roads (i.e., it is not all on trails).

I saw a book for it at REI once. This one.

I figured it was a good portion roads since I couldn't see how the hell a trail would get from WA to MT and manage to avoid all (or most) civilization.

A mule? I planned on riding a Pony the whole way.

Yaks are native to the Himalaya but mules are not native to the PNW. If you could get snaffles to tow you along the trail that would be OK.

They do quite a bit of trailwork and actually do some good work with kids that would otherwise be dropouts if it wansn't for their work program. I knw they were pushing years back to get the bridge over Swift Creek repaired but apparently a biologist wanted to place a phantom grizzly bear out there.
