RuMR Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 First rule of holes.... when your in one, stop digging! ps... I bet my Math and Analytical GRE scores were better than yours Gary BFD...those tests are roughly equivalent to the SAT math tests... Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Terrific, Gary. But how much you bench? I have no idea, but if I had to guess, probably about 190-200, as I haven't trained for it specifically in years. In undergrad, I could do 225, which made me happy, as it was my weight + 50%. But it obviously required maintenance. Quote
cj001f Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 What's wrong with Duke? $2.4 million in bribes? Quote

I bet my Math and Analytical GRE scores were better than yours Gary BFD...those tests are roughly equivalent to the SAT math tests... No Shit. So what did you score? The analytical were at least moderately annoying though. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 BFD...those tests are roughly equivalent to the SAT math tests... The SATs are meant to test the general population. Hence they do a poor job in testing the exceptional, as the variance in their scores comes not from ability but from carelessness. There are many other tests that are more appropriate for those who excel at math. In high school, there is the AHSME -> AIME -> USAMO (-> IMO) series. Counties/states often hold their own math tournaments. ARML is a national math tournament were states and some private/magnet schools send their own teams. In college, there's the Putnam Exam. Quote
minx Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Selkirk - the fact that you can remember those scores moves you right into the geek group! Go buy Gary a beer Quote

selkirk Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Selkirk - the fact that you can remember those scores moves you right into the geek group! So tell us minxy, what were your scored Quote

Gary_Yngve Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Fuck, this thread has gotten weird. In the past five years, I don't think I've told anyone that I got X place at Y competition, that I scored X on Y test, etc. The only thing that I can think of is the National Geography Bee -- I was state champ of GA, and another CC.commer was state champ of his respective state. But the reason that I brought it up is my parents dug up the profiles of the competitors from back then, and it had pics of us when we were 12, with silly bios. Somehow all this shit is bursting out at once. Not sure why. Maybe it's the insecurity that someone else mentioned... insecure of my lack of results on a problem that may be too hard for a PhD? Quote
RuMR Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 no, you only said that 0.1% of women were up to your standard...not that you are braggin' or anything... Quote
RuMR Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 BTW...that whole "can't handle stress/excitement/and keeping a hold of sumpin' " must make sex with you pretty unentertaining for that 0.1% of women out there.... Quote
DirtyHarry Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Gary, you are a piece of work, man. You seriously make that dude in Napolean Dynamite look like James fucking Brown. Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 National Geography Bee China is getting pretty close. Quote
selkirk Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Gary, most problems are too hard for a PhD. If it wasn't open ended and difficult it probably wouldn't be worth doing. "Research is never finished, it's abandoned". (not my words but awfully accurate) Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Hey I heard someone say that a man who is proud of his intellect is like a prisoner proud of his jail cell. And while you marinate on that for maybe a minute why don't you, is it worth marinating about what "men over X" is? She's such a little strumpet.... Quote
minx Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 strumpet is just such a good word. sorry selkirk...maybe it's just that i'm past my salad days but i can't remember my scores. they were enough to get me what i wanted. sincerely, mynxi Quote
