WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Fuck...this is so meaningless...

Recommended Posts

I wrote a poem about this a few years back. From my collection "Ravings Of A Coastal Madman"

Mind On A Train

Spontaneous and free

for years, it seems

Coming back into the mundane:

workaday, slave away

Put my mind on a train.

Carry it down the line

to places far away

While the body works, the mind will play.

In the groove of daily grind

freedom left

far behind

Pay the bills, save and dream

for things that fulfill

In here looking out,

mind on a train.

Mind on a train

the ticket's one way

find the means

hold the hope

Join it someday.

well I just got soaked to the ass forming for concrete, which I HATE... I want a finishing job where I can drink coffee and walk around in fuzzy socks all day.

That's what I do, and I don't get to wear fuzzy socks. Just white-soled, non-marking shoes.

But the coffee and indoor work IS nice. thumbs_up.gif

I had to do carpentry for 15 years to get there, though. And I have to deal with clients.

yeah, I did that last winter, and loved it, I even got to wear fuzzy socks, but circumstances are such that Im outside for this job. And yes it could always be worse. I think I'll have a beer, see things are lookin' better already bigdrink.gif

I make proprietary coffee beverages and get 401k, stock options, free beans, and medical as well as the ability to chat and be a gooberhead all day long. I get grumpy at times but all in all its ok and has been for 17 years. smile.gif

Thanks for tryin', Chirp, but it all arrived at my location as an incomprehensible mess of data causing me to mutter, "Fuck...this is so meaningless..."

I am beginning to wonder if when I leave this job should I burn all my bridges so that I am forced never to return to computer work again? Computer related work is like crack. You quit again and again and you just keep going back. I need to do something drastic this time.

I have the exact same thought on a daily basis.

i for one, would like to thank you computer types for keeping me in newer, faster, fancier, more complex programs to make my job easier.

i hated my job, really hated it. i found a new job in the same industry that has meaning and i'm much happier but i didn't have to change careers... although i might some day.

just drinking more but i was attributing that to the non-stop rain.

seriously, it didn't take a career change, it took a new environment and working for someplace with a better focus than my last job. maybe people shouldn't expect to be satisfied with the same job for decades?

I hate my job too. But I like to eat, and sleep indoors sometimes, and I don't want to work at the Plaid Pantry. What're you going to do?

I think too many people use this excuse to stay in a job they hate. I dont know what I am going to do, but its not this anymore. Teaching probably. So far the only jobs I have really enjoyed have been teaching jobs.

Although working at the Plaid Pantry pays more than teaching, it is not nearly as rewarding...

You know that you can work as an adjunct teacher/professor/instructor at a number of educational institutions. I do that occasionally (teach evening classes so I keep my "real" job) for fun. It is very satisfying, and it tends to reignite the passion you have about the subject you are teaching. For me, teaching is a great hobby. And, it gives me HUGE respect for real teachers.

Yea, but I came to a realization I will have a paycut a year ago, and luck would have it that I think I could absorb the pay cut. It will hurt real bad, but I dont think I will have to sell the house. I just need a bit more inflation and then my mortgage wont seem that bad.
