A British band claims to have set the world record by playing a gig at the world's highest altitude - above Mount Everest's Base Camp.

The Hidden said they performed at 5,545m at Kalar Pattar last month.

The 40-minute concert, in front of about 100 mountaineers, was to raise money for children victimised by armed conflict in Nepal.

Musician Oz Bayldon said it was a wonderful experience. The band also holds the world record for longest gig.

The Everest gig was organised by the British charity Nepal Balabalika Trust (Trust for Nepalese Children).

Long playing

Mr Bayldon and his colleagues already set another world record of longest gig in September this year by performing continuously for nearly 44 hours in a bar in London's Soho district.

Mr Bayldon said they had raised nearly £30,000 to help Nepalese children.

He said a shelter and skills centre will be set up for the conflict-affected children at Dhulikhel, east of capital Kathmandu, with the help of another charity, Help Nepal Network.

Rights groups say nearly 400 children have died in the nine-year-old armed conflict in Nepal.

They say thousands of others have been displaced, along with their parents, as the conflict intensifies.

Over 11,000 people have lost their lives in the insurgency which aims to replace the country's monarchy with a Maoist republic.

Here you go, RN. Over 45 pages of drivel, making this one of the longer threads on this board, and a real classic.

Grab yerself a beer and a bong and settle in for a long evening...

I guess we are all eating our words now.

I bet there's some dude that just lost it this one time, and just hangs out somewhere half-way up Everest now, too.

We all saw it, drunk/high/stoned, just for the laugh-factor it provided.

Side note: Me and a bunch of my buds got all doodied up in our mountaineering regalia, and trooped off to the theatre to go see it. They made us leave our ice axes at the ticket booth. frown.gif

Then they almost threw us out of the theatre, we were so drunk and being such assholes! smile.gif
