Toast Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 It's along story, but I'm being forced into getting some rental insurance. I need to value my possessions pathetic as they are. After getting all of my CD's cleaned out by a burglar the only things I own of any monetary value are a decent stereo, well used cookwear and camping/climbing gear. So my question is what's the average value of your average dirtbag climber, i.e. you Quote
Alpinfox Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 2.1 million dollars. Anybody wanna go climbing with me? Quote
Camilo Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 My girlfriend and parents both tell me I'm worthless. Pretty often. My boss too. Quote
slothrop Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Might as well do like your avatar pic, then. Quote
archenemy Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Value your stuff at what it would cost to replace it--not what it is worth right now. With that in mind, think about what it would cost to replace everything if your place burned down. Clothes, shoes, books, all that stuff. It adds up fast. Quote
chris_w Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 make sure you ask about your climbing gear. I think the renters insurance that I had would cover up to $1000 of sporting goods. For a few dollars more they would up the value. Quote
rbw1966 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Don't forget your bike(s), computer stuff, ski gear, etc. Quote
Toast Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 My agent said the "average" for somebody like me was about $30K. I don't know if that's high, low or about right. Chris has a good point about upping the replacement value on Sporting Goods. I think that's 50% of my total net worth Quote
barjor Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Acording to board standards you can't call your self a climber unless your gear is atleast 50% of your net worth. Quote
slothrop Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I've got $20K or so on my stuff, but I never tallied up the value of everything. That's what my agent said was average Quote

I suspect some of these folks have that much tied up in knicknacks. It's sure nice to have ins. when some jackass steals your stuff. Quote
