glacier Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 So, my sweetie and I were at the ballet last week, taking in a bit of culture and enjoying watching fit, flexible people flit around. Now, I am used to seeing a wide definition of "formal" wear at Seattle cultural events - jeans to evening wear, but this is the first time I have spotted (drum roll please)... Shorts and polypro. Now, there was only one, he wasn't wearing a helmet with tape, and the 10 essentials were not in sight, so I couldn't be sure that it was a Mountaineer, but it did seem a bit amiss. Comments? Explanations? Quote
olyclimber Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 I've heard that ballet dancing is really good training for rock climbing. Quote
Squid Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Couldn't have been a mountie- they don't solo anything. Maybe BoeAlps? or an off-route Mazama? Quote
Dru Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 If they'd been wearing white painter's pants, that would have been appropriate attire, especially for the Boreal Ballet. Quote
foraker Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 When I was at the Sydney opera house a few years back, down in the good seats, there was this well dressed woman there with what I can only assume was her husband. He was wearing a a bright orange track suit. She was clearly not happy. I can only assume his choice of attire was some form of protest rather than a matter of comfort. Quote
AlpineK Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I'd be pissed if someone tried to drag me to the opera. Fucking boring ass 18th century art form. Quote
olyclimber Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Under the influence of drugs or love, I'm sure they're pretty swell and whatnot. I went to one for the first time I wasn't heavily under the influence, and it was pretty boring. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Was he short roped to his seat by the usher? was the largest sized tri-cam visible? Quote
foraker Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I am surrounded by cossacks and philistines and snaffle molestors. Quote
glacier Posted April 28, 2005 Author Posted April 28, 2005 Maybe you should get different seats. Quote
fenderfour Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Couldn't have been a mountie- they don't solo anything. Maybe BoeAlps? or an off-route Mazama? I would bet it was someone from the UW climbing club. Being a college student, it was likely the last clean outfit before going to mom's to do laundry. Quote
glacier Posted April 28, 2005 Author Posted April 28, 2005 Nah, he was middle-aged - definite mountie material. Quote
olyclimber Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Perhaps it would help if the discussion focused around when it is appropriate to wear shorts over polypro, and when it is not. The warmth, flexiblity, and handsome style of this technique really lends itself to any situation, but perhaps there are social situations where this application might not be the best choice. Perhaps a Basic 101 course in Shorts Over Polypro is in order to best equip newly outdoor oriented folks with the tools they need to survive in the urban environment. Quote
archenemy Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Maybe he wears them out of tights-jealousy Quote
Dechristo Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Maybe he wears them out of tights-jealousy That would be tights-envy. Quote
