mattp Posted May 5, 2005 Author Posted May 5, 2005 I swung by Picnic Shelter #6 tonight, on my way home from work. The outlet is powered up, so we'll be able to show slides. Â Anybody bringing a side dish?
klenke Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I asked a dish to be at my side for the picnic... ...but she said no.
mattp Posted May 5, 2005 Author Posted May 5, 2005 Weather Service says: Â TONIGHT...PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE EVENING...THEN MOSTLY CLOUDY AFTER MIDNIGHT. LOWS IN THE 40S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTHWEST AROUND 10 MPH AFTER MIDNIGHT. Â Good thing I reserved Picnic Shelter number 6. It is large enough to hold an army. Maybe we'll have a light show (lightning) to go with our slides! Â
mattp Posted May 5, 2005 Author Posted May 5, 2005 Things we need: Â 1. Light. I have a couple of extension cords and some small lights, but a halide construction lamp would be nice. Â 2. Gary. Can somebody pick Gary up in the U District abouti 6:30? He's bring a screen and digital projector. Â 3. Paper Plates. Â 4. Charcoal. I assume somebody's going to have read the invitation and will bring something to grill. Â 5. Coffee or Hot Chocolate. Anybody have some of those big catering outfit servers?
Gary_Yngve Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Things we need: 2. Gary. Can somebody pick Gary up in the U District about 6:30? He's bring a screen and digital projector. Â And a laptop. Â I also have paper plates and could pick up charcoal from Safeway. But I do need a ride if I am to transport stuff.
Toast Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I have a bag of charcoal I can bring. It'll be enough for one grill but not much more.
olyclimber Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Yes. It took me like 3 1/2 hours shading your upper lip.
mattp Posted May 5, 2005 Author Posted May 5, 2005 We still need some hot drinks and a light. I've got an MSR stove and a pot in my car, but I was hoping we could be a little more upscale than that. Â Can somebody pick Gary up? Â I'll be at the Picnic Shelter around 6:00, setting up. Â I'm looking forward to seeing some new faces along with the old ones.
Squid Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Have fun storming the castle, kids. Â Don't come running to me when you need bail.
olyclimber Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Stuck baby sitting the goat again, eh Squid? Lucky duck.
tread_tramp Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I can bring what's left in the bag of charcoals I brought last year. I think there's plenty left.
mattp Posted May 6, 2005 Author Posted May 6, 2005 Allright then, I gotta go get Gary and the projector system, so I won't be able to get there early. We are at the same place as last year - right next to the horseshoe pits.
snoboy Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 shit. nothing ever happens in portland. Â Make it happen then... Â Hope your all having fun. Expect lots of pics of the debauchery...
mattp Posted May 6, 2005 Author Posted May 6, 2005 No pics and not much debauchery, really. Porter's son almost caught a bunny and it would have ended up on the grill if he had, and a homeless guy offered to share his "wine" with is if we'd lend him some money. Somebody sipped a beer but it wasn't a wild kegger or anything. Â While cooking garden burgers, we entertained ourselves with a slack line and then when it got dark enough we showed slides ranging from protests outside British Parliament to ice climbing in Canada, the 1935 Silver Skis race at Mount Rainier to the 2005 crag clean-up at Index. Â The precursor for this event was hosted by Julie Brugger in the '80's, and was an annual thing for many years. After a brief hiatus, we're back.
Dave_Schuldt Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 From Gary's slides it seems he is using his position as president of the UW climbing club to get the hotties on the rock. COOL!
