Squid Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Is there a kayaking version of cc.com out there, or some other website where I can find local used kayaks? thank you very much for allowing blossoming boater to spray. ps. Yes, this means that I've finally recognized that I've achieved my lifelong goals of sucking more than anyone has ever sucked before at climbing. I'm quitting gracefully, while I'm ahead. New vistas await- I will now push the boundaries of suck at whitewater. Quote
egaibrev Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 I haven't found a great local site, but try: boatertalk.com mountainbuzz.com (out of CO) washingtonkayakclub.org Bring on the suck... Quote
JayB Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Craig's List has had some pretty good scores recently. There's also the Washington Kayak Club bulletin board, and a relatively new local site that should see increasing traffic - www.professorpaddle.com. If you know what you are looking for you will probably have decent luck by posting the sort of boat that you are looking for and your price range. I went for the cheapest boats I could find in both cases, but if you are looking for an all around "river play" sort of boat, the Pyranha Inazone series is a pretty sweet all-rounder with a modern planing hull. There's someone selling an Inazone 240 at the professorpaddle.com site for $375. Quote
JayB Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Also - boating has thus far been a great compliment to skiing and climbing, rather than something that has taken me away from those activities. I got into it because I was looking for something to do when the conditions sucked for everything else, and it has served me pretty well in that role. When it's drizzling up to 9,000 feet all over the state you'll still have something fun to do... Quote
Dru Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Yes, if you are asking about an appropriate site for used kayaks, I'd suggest the landfill It will destroy your climbing ability. You will put on weight to insulate you from the cold water, your ass will get fat, and your legs will dwindle to puny little sticks, sort of like a wheelchair basketball player's. Quote
snugtop Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 build your own! if that fails, walk by the freight entrance to REI. There seem to be a lot just lying around... Quote
Squid Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Ya know Squid boaters wear spray skirts Quit hittting on me, ya old pervert. Thanks for the links and advice everyone! Quote
Squid Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 It will destroy your climbing ability. You will put on weight to insulate you from the cold water, your ass will get fat, and your legs will dwindle to puny little sticks, sort of like a wheelchair basketball player's. It sounds like the perfect sport for me! I'm a fat, talentless climber with chunky legs. Maybe I'll become a fat, talentless climber w/ skinny legs! Quote
JayB Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Next to the Utilikilt, there's nothing as manly as a sprayskirt. Ooooooh! Manly! Fat-Ass-and-Stick-Legs-as-ballast.... Uber-Manly-Sprayskirt-Wearing-NoFear!-Facial-Expression.... Quote
cj001f Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 It´s more local than colorado. www.pdxkayaker.org Quote
rbw1966 Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Next Adventure in PDX has used kayaks as well. Quote

cj001f Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Next Adventure in PDX has used kayaks as well. Yeah, but PDXkayaker has the ¨my boats a year old, I´ve got to upgrade and ditch this boat for a pittance of what I paid for it¨crowd. I believe Alder Creek has used yaks as well. Quote
Kitergal Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Yahoo groups...There's a NW kayaking and a White Water Group. Both have people posting used stuff all the time! -M Quote
Kitergal Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Check out the IK's! I'm loving them!! Got tired of scraping my head on rocks in the hardshells...so I went for an IK and will never go back! LOVE IT!! And..yes...in an IK you can haul a HELL of a lot more beer!! The OTHER reason I switched!! -M Quote
ajm Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 pdxkayaker is a great site... Although, not based in Seattle I know they post events/gear sales/partners etc...that would be close to what your looking for. http://www.pdxkayaker.org/ Quote
ajm Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Oh, Alder Creek Kayaks might also be a good place to look for used kayaks. My friend used to be the owner of it and now my roommate is working on thier website. I might be able to help out with other contacts as well. Let me know. Quote
rbw1966 Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Did you even bother reading the thread before posting? Both of your suggestions had already been posted. Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Did you even bother reading the thread before posting? Both of your suggestions had already been posted. Smackdown from the pimp hand! Quote
Squid Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 Did you even bother reading the thread before posting? Both of your suggestions had already been posted. AJM's obvious good intentions make up for any lack of reading comprehension. Thanks everyone for the cool responses. Picking up kayaking this spring sounds about as clever as picking up skiing this past winter, but I'm stoked anyhow. Hope to see y'all out there. Quote
rbw1966 Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I didn't mean that as harsh as it may have came out. Just trying to point out that reading the thread would have eliminated two redundant posts. But this is spray. Have fun Squid. Quote
Squid Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 Thanks- kayaking may actually give me an excuse to visit PDX this summer- re-visit old haunts along the Sandy and other PDX rivers. I'd heard that some sort of boulder (temporarily?) obstructed Bob's Hole (where the rodeo was). Is the hole gone for good? Quote
cj001f Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 AJM's obvious good intentions make up for any lack of reading comprehension. Not to mention her good taste in who to echo! Marie - Which IK do you have? I´m looking to get one. Quote
