Blake Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 I'm going up from Bellingham to Whistler Thursday, with a stop at MEC on the return. I've never been to either before, how long of a drive should I plan for? Should I follow the Whistler webpage's directions... or is there a way to avoid downtwn Vancouver? Any advice on whether Whistler or Blackcomb mtns are better at this coverage level? IF I were to stop at an MEC, is Van or N.Van the place? Thanks! Quote
jordop Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Take the truck crossing and go STRAIGHT up to the #1 instead of turning back onto the 99 whcih will lead you into downtown clusterfuck. The MEC in North Van is nowhere near opening. PLan on 3 hrs Ski both hills and decide for yourself Quote
Dru Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Don't think N Van MEC is open yet. Downtown Vancouver is casual except during rush hour. Avoid rush hour. It might be faster to go through Aldergrove and then follow Highway 1 to Horseshoe Bay (thus avoiding downtown entirely on the way up) Should take about 2.5-3 hours from Bellingham to Whistler seeing as how it is your first time. Blake Posted December 8, 2004 Author Posted December 8, 2004 Take the truck crossing and go STRAIGHT up to the #1 instead of turning back onto the 99 whcih will lead you into downtown clusterfuck. IS this the #15 through Surrey? Quote
Dru Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 No no no just come up through Lynden and get on the #1 from Aldergrove. Its faster than going through Surrey. Quote
jordop Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 (edited) either one works Edited June 7, 2021 by jordop Quote
Mr._Natural Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 blake, do what dru says, take the guide to lynden. that crossing is way more casual than the truck crossing. Quote
Distel32 Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 I've never waited more than 10mins at the truck crossing, but whatever, all the same Quote
Dru Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 average wait at aldergrove is 30 seconds including questions from bored guard! Quote
Stavrogin Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 dru is right, aldergrove/lynden border is the way to go. you'll get the least questioned/hassled by the border folk than the other crossings. plus you can stop at edaleen dairy just south of the border on the guide for really good ice cream! Quote
jordop Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Yeah, that crossing works, say if you've got $2000 worth of cams in the trunk from a covert prodeal op in Bend. Ahem. You can get stuck behind a goddamned milk truck or something on those roads in and out of that crossing. Why the hell am I debating this? Quote
EWolfe Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Thanks for the beta on Lynden, you guys. I have always done the truck crossing -sometimes it's a CF Quote
cicleclimb Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Do you guys know the address for the van arcteryx store? Quote
Alan Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 As per the security guard at N Van MEC yesterday, it will open this Friday the 17th. Don't know how ready it will be. And yes, I do know the address of the Arc'teryx store. Quote
jordop Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 As per the security guard at N Van MEC yesterday, it will open this Friday the 17th. Don't know how ready it will be. And yes, I do know the address of the Arc'teryx store. They still had plastic on the roof last week! Opening on the 17th, that's gonna be awesome, I'm gonna go by just to see how much of a clusterphuk it is. Oh man, opening NINE days before XMAS Quote
snoboy Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 w000t! that will be a hoot! I have been in a long line at the Truck crossing I also know where the Arc'teryx store is. Quote
Dru Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 I know where the Arcteryx store is but not what the address is. However I also know where I can look up the address Quote
jordop Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 From the construction worker carrying plywood into the store an hour ago on the estimated opening of the MEC North Van: " maybe tomorrow" Quote
Bogen Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 From the construction worker carrying plywood into the store an hour ago on the estimated opening of the MEC North Van: " maybe tomorrow" That's funny! I drove past the Arc'teryx store this morning. Quote
