Dru Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Fred tells me that his unedited text for the new edition of Cascade Alpine Guide Vol III contains the word "fuck". He suggested I post here and ask people whether they think the Mountaineers Books will edit it out or not. Quote
olyclimber Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 They'll never allow that in the published book. That's just a "gateway" word. Before you know it, that CAG will end up reading just like this website if they let that happen. Quote
Ponzini Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Did he tell you why "fuck" was included? A new route name? Although I think they'd delete it, I think it should be included as profanity is a great way to convey the emotions encountered when climbing. The Squamish guides have had profanity for years. Quote
Dru Posted November 30, 2004 Author Posted November 30, 2004 In the case he was referring to it was because he was quoting the account of the first ascent verbatim, but I believe he's got it in in several spots and one of the other spots is a route name. Quote
tomtom Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 I believe "clusterfuck" is in Gadd's book. Quote
Jason_Martin Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 They didn't edit it out of our book. In fact nobody at mountaineers ever even questioned it... Jason Quote
glassgowkiss Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 why the fuck would they fucking care? and if they did, joke'm if they can't take the fuck. i wonder if they would fucking edit my motherfucking helmet?? Quote
David_Parker Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I think he was refering to what ones says 1/2 way down the bedwyn (sp?) couloir on Goode. Quote
Stefan Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I think he was refering to what ones says 1/2 way down the bedwyn (sp?) couloir on Goode. It is the Bedayn Couloir. And yes, one will say "fuck". And not just once, but several fucking times. Warning: Do not go down the Bedayn Couloir! Quote
David_Parker Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Dru, nobody refers to his books by volume #. It's red, green or tan (formerly brown). The green book is the latest new edition that came out this summer and Goode is in the green book. I don't have a clue what Vol. III is! Quote
Billygoat Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 I won't buy it if it has swear werds. Quote
