JERRY_SANCHEZ Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 I heard this is a great way to meet people. What do you think? Businesses team up to offer adventures in dating www.matchtravel.com Think of it as "Survivor" meets "Blind Date" — without the cameras. Singles looking for love and adventure can get a two-for-one shot with outdoor trips organized by Seattle-based REI and online dating service Match.com. The two companies recently teamed up to offer activity-based adventure trips — hiking, climbing, kayaking and cycling — to Match.com members. "Interactive activities are a great, low-pressure way to meet other people," said Kathleen Roldan, director of dating for the Dallas-based matchmaking company. "We're offering a large pool of eligible singles an opportunity to interact with each other without the pressure of a first-date situation." Mark Klee, a 38-year-old pharmacist tired of the Boston bar scene, returned last week from a nine-day cycling trip to Ireland. "The trip was awesome," he said. "It was a really good group of folks. There were some very attractive women." In fact, Klee plans to meet a couple of his new female friends for dinner in San Diego this weekend when he's in the area for a friend's wedding. "I don't know if my primary focus in going over there was to hook up," he said. "The fact that everybody was single was just sort of an added bonus." Even if people don't make a love connection, they usually enjoy traveling with a group of like-minded singles, sponsors of the trips say. "If people are married, they don't want to go on a trip with singles. If they're single, they don't want married couples," said Cynthia Dunbar, manager of REI Adventures. "Those are the things that are always on people's minds." The monthly trips accommodate 16 — eight men and eight women. A hiking trip to Utah in October is already sold out, and trips to Baja and Hawaii are planned for November and December. Diane Murray, an active 50-year-old from Portland, said she often has trouble meeting men her age who can keep up with her. Though she didn't meet her match on her trip to Ireland in August, she says she would do it again "in a heartbeat." "I thought, 'Gosh, what a great opportunity to meet other single people that share the same interests,' " she said. "It was a lot of fun." Quote

gapertimmy Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 this brings a whole new meaning to the term "rope gun hooker" Quote
freeclimb9 Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 In my experience, it's usually a mistake to mix pleasures. I end up frustrated and annoyed. Quote
Cletus Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 Wait, I don't get it. Random people, sex, booze, and being tied up in ropes...how is that any different from what any of us does on our own on the weekends? What? Did I say that out loud? Shiat.. Quote

texplorer Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 Just another shamless promotion of a similar business. Singles looking for love and convenience can get a two for one trips organized by the Eugene based Snafflehound Equipment Inc. (SEI) and Cascadeclimbers.com. The two companies have teamed up to offer fast and easy hookups while in the backcountry. "The interactive activities are a great, low pressure way to get some in the backcountry without having to hear the usual bitching that bringing a girlfriend along would usually incur." says Trask. The company can provide companionship and eliminate the need of the dreaded same sex spooning common with cc.com posters. Even if clients that don't make a love connection more than 3 times on the trip say they, "would do it again in a heartbeat." Maybe climbers finally can ease their sexual tensions while away from civilization. Quote
texplorer Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 I think it's a good idea really. I am looking for a manly-girl and if I can git her out into the woods, all the better!! Quote

allison Posted September 29, 2002 Posted September 29, 2002 Being fat and ugly has served me well over the years. I wouldn't want to get the sort of attention that our fine filly Anna gets anyway!I would think it would get old. Quote
