Dr_Crash Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hi, I have a friend who's going there Thursday, thinking of skinning up and then climbing from the hogsback and up. Has anybody been recently, who could post some recent beta? Reports are that the bergschrund cannot be crossed, is that true? There was a snow bridge two weeks ago when I climbed it, but it's been warm! Thanks, drC Quote
Ricardo_Montalban Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Chriznitch's last picture on his Cooper Spur TR (last wed) is of the hogsback. Quote
Chriznitch Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 I was there on the 14th. Check out the Cooper Spur report. This was the shrund crossing then This was the hogback view It was a week ago, but hope that helps Quote
Dr_Crash Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Yes, it helps. My friend says thank you. It looks like the bergschrund and the bridge are in basically the same shape they were in 2 weeks ago. Should be an easy climb for them then. drC Quote
pjc Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Question on latest conditions: Is the south route now pretty much done for the season? Has anyone gone up unroped lately. I heard the Hogsback is slick and narrow, the schrund hard to negotiate. I've never done it this late, and its been so hot too... Quote
iain Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 There are just so many better choices right now. Why not do it during a more enjoyable time of year? I can tell you that there is a great deal of rockfall right now (as of last Friday). Quote
billcoe Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Iain: maybe you could share some of the better choices for Crash's friend and others so there is a readily visible alternative to Hogsback presented by an expert. Lets call it Iain's list........the best of:-) Quote
ivan Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 said list will not include cooper's spur the sunshine route on the north side lasts longer than the south side route and is far more aesthetic anyhow w/ its wilder ambience Quote
wally Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 any suggestions for a route mid september? perhaps Wy'east Quote
