A speeding ticket for 32 in a 25? Give me a break. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get a ticket for doing less than 10 mph over the speed limit. There wasn't a soul on the road but me -- vehicle, bicycle or pedestrian -- meanwhile, a block away, I literally see a high school kid almost mow down an old lady crossing the street. Any cops around? Of course not.

I think Vernal Kent in The Usual Suspects said it best: "Fucking cops."

Maybe he had a quota to make, doing his part to keep the Redmond city coffers full. Too bad for him he failed to notice that my license, registration and insurance all have 3 different addresses (none of them current) and my tags are 3 months expired.

There's no rhyme or reason to it. I see really egregious violations every day during my walk to work and I've seen the cops in vehicles completely ignore the fact that it occurred right in front of them.

Some years back in Seattle it was legal for a citizen to wave over an officer if they were exceeding the posted limit without warning devices in operation. You could then place them under private persons arrest than write them a ticket out of their book. That was fun (but stupid) for a while. I once received a ticket for 56 in a 55 zone. That loophole has since been plugged. crazy.gif

A speeding ticket for 32 in a 25?

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA snugtop.gif

just pay the damn ticket and dont blame the cops because you broke the posted speed limit, or did Verbal make you do it?

I did get stopped in the nearby tiny town of Rainier for doing 26 in a 25 once, but local status got me off with a warning. If I had been from Redmond I'm sure I'd have been ticketed.

Scott, do you come to a full and complete stop at every stop sign when you're riding your bike?

Someone please show me where I said I should be able to break the law. I was bitching about getting caught, my god given right.

Nope, but when I get a ticket for blatantly breaking the law, I won't whine on a BBS. wave.gif

WOW, that - is - tooooo - cool. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifyellaf.gif who was the stupidass mayor or councilmember(s) who let that law be overturned??

back in DC, there were at least three times (over about two years) that I saw a cop pull up to a red light at a not-very-busy intersection, turn on his flashers, run the red light, and then turn the flashers off. WTF?? rolleyes.gifhellno3d.gif (but that's DC of course... whole differn't can o' worms... corruption and mismanagement run rampant in DC's local government.)

no, there's VERY few things that get under my skin more than cops who break laws.. I say they should get twice the typical sentence that we'd get for traffic violations... aren't the fukkers supposed to be SETTING AN EXAMPLE for us?!?!? madgo_ron.gif

there's been a few occasions when I've called the cops' non-emergency # to complain when I see em commiting needless traffic violations.. sometimes when I had the car's ID, and sometimes when I didn't but still explained the exact time/location. and of course they feign apology and say they'll "log" or "pass on" the complaint, etc etc. maybe my phone calls actually makes a difference, maybe not.. but I still do it and would encourage others to do the same. Seattle PD's non-911 # is 206-625-5011... plug it into yer cell phone! ya never know when you may want it, either for this, or for reporting some other type of non-emergency type crime.

and I say any cop convicted of ANY violent crime which is not at ALL connected to the line of duty ... (for instance domestic violence, which you seem to hear about quite a few cops getting entagled in) .... should be locked up for 30 years , w/no chance of parole. let the piece o' shit rot in jail.

Quote it as many times as you want, it still doesn't say anywhere that I should be allowed to break the law.

I talked my way out of a ticket for doing 86 in a 40 when I was sixteen and had a clean driving record. I actually got pulled over 7 times before I recieved my first ticket.

As the red and blue light up my rearview, I put on my best sheepish country boy face and big round innocent eyes.

"Yes sir?"

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"Yes sir, I believe I was speeding a little"

"A little? Try 46 miles over the speed limit!"

"Woah, that is pretty dangerous, luckily you were here to set me straight. I barrowed my sisters car and it seems to go a lot faster than my old truck. That was really dumb for me to be going that fast."

"It certainly was! What's your big hurry anyway?"

"I just got back in town and was driving to my gurlfriend's house and was just anxious to see her."

"Give me your license and registration. I bet you're not in a hurry anymore, are yah?"

"No sir!"

Goes back to the police car and checks my record, finds I'm clean and doesen't want to be the guy who puts the first blemish on such a nice kid's record.

"OK, I'm gonna let you go with a verbal warning this time but next time..."

"Thank you sir!" vroom!

So if you are saying that you did in fact deserve the ticket, then why did you post about it? Geek_em8.gifyelrotflmao.gif

I was lamenting the bad luck in getting caught for such a minor infraction, not that I shouldn't have been ticketed. Either that seems obvious to everyone but you, or you're just being an ass.

i got pulled over not to long ago for 59 in a 35. Litteraly in the middle of nowhere, 23 miles up the baker lake road, just a mile from the turn off to the forrest road for the baker hotsprings. it was the day after i cut the meanest mullet and handelbars you have ever seen. cuz it was the middle of nowhere and the sherrif laughed at the hairdoo he let me off with a warning, lucky as fuck.

My Dad likes to tell the story of how he got passed by a cop going 100+ w/o his lights on, then pulled over at a gas station down the road to see the cop sitting there, drinking his morning coffee while filling the gas tank. Dad whips out his military ID, mumbles something authoritatively about being a commissioned officer of the United States and puts him under citizen's arrest or some shit. Man, I'd love to do that.

Bronco, I'll bet that once you got that first ticket, more tickets came like a tidal wave. grin.gif

You got that right! I was actually on "probation" for a while and had to attend "aggressive driving counciling".

"It appears most of your infractions occured in rural areas, why do you feel you speed more in these areas than say, the freeway?"

I'm thinking "I don't, I can just spot the cops easier on the freeway" but I bit my tounge and said "I usually take the back roads, I guess I should be more careful". rolleyes.gif
