texplorer Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Has anyone gotten onto some gorge ice in the last couple of days. I saw that I-84 was closed today but looks like the Dalles is still frigid. Quote
Northwest_Lunacy Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Hey Tex I posted a quick TR of the Crown Jewel under Ice Conditions. Quote
Winter Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 So what happened in the Gorge today? MtnHigh? Crackman? MtnGuide? Who got some?! Didja blow through the drift? Quote
texplorer Posted January 9, 2004 Author Posted January 9, 2004 Crackman, Mtnhigh, Texplorer, and Zach went up to hazel dell area yesterday. We climbed at the Hazel dell area on what we thought to be Bent Screw and The Column. Both were very nicely formed. I would imagine that at least Bent Screw will be in for a few more days but the column was starting to deteriorate yesterday. Overall these are nice climbs that are out of the wind. Quote
texplorer Posted January 9, 2004 Author Posted January 9, 2004 They got some pics but probably wont' be able to post them until tomorrow due to work. Quote
Crackman Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 Good times! I'll try and post some pics tomorrow. Better get out there soon, it won't last long. Quote
luvshaker Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 Crackman, Did you attempt to pull out the fella who burried his explorer in the drift? My Toyata (w/ chains) couldn't budge him. I'll make an attempt at posting a nice shot of you guys leading bent screw. -Later Quote
Crackman Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Yeah, we dug and then pushed that Explorer out (not the SUV in the pic above). Those kids were lucky someone happened along or it would have been a long cold night.  Anyway, here are a few pics from the climbing on Thursday...  Base of Bent Screw (Rob, MntHigh, & Zack)  Dueling leads on Bent Screw (MntHigh and Crackman)  Zack Attack on Bent Screw  LuvShaker on the Column  Texplorer on the Column Quote
snodger Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 Looks like fun, but where exactly are these climbs? How good was the ice? Â Betcha theres a mob tomorrow! Quote
iain Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Good to see you got out shred, I wound up heading out with some folks kinda last minute. We were confronted by ODOT on the old highway after we did a little road closure violation over by Ainsworth. We descided to beat a retreat when he called up the state police to lay down the law. We ended up at wakeena falls.  That curtain thing to the right  Smooth Operator Quote
iain Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 yeah we were climbing by headlamp, we are desparate in oregon Quote
iain Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Those locals deserve a break. Many of them have been snowed in for days with 84 closed. We were trying to bust through the old highway by Ainsworth. When we decided to turn around, I of course plowed my Taco into the snow and promptly highcentered. As we sheepishly dig out, of course ODOT shows up and starts giving us the "can't you read" lines. He was probably pretty stressed out after the last few days. Quote
texplorer Posted January 12, 2004 Author Posted January 12, 2004 Check out the difference in a couple of days   Quote
ChrisT Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 who all went climbing? Some captions would be nice. Quote
rbw1966 Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 It was certainly a blast. Kudos to shred for leading the super scary second 'pitch' on Crown Jewel leading into the gulley. The mushrooms were uber hollow and I kept waiting for my fat ass to punch through to the torrent raging below. Instead I topped out only to be nearly swept off by the damn wind. The moss and choss gully scramble was icing on the cake. Â I'm still high from such a spectaular day! Quote
rbw1966 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Thank God the cops are keeping our highways safe! Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 nice, Rob. If you read it backwards it says PDX cops suck the hind tit. Quote
iain Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 stupid germans with their passat diesels! Get a real american-blooded steed like an f-350. That's what that says backwards. Â At least they didn't almost run you over while you were digging your truck out of a drift, then proceed to insult you as you try to turn around Quote
