I just got back down to the beautiful southwest today. I personally believe that Red Rock -- just outside of Vegas -- has some of the best moderate multi-pitch routes in America. And it can't be beat for winter fun in the sun!

Vegas itself is excellent too. Cheap buffetts, show girls, free shows, 99 cent margaritas, free drinks while playing nickle slots, and climbing everywhere! It really can't be beat...

Had a great time watching the cousin get married in a cheesy chapel. cantfocus.gif

The party Friday night was full of : bigdrink.gifbigdrink.gifbigdrink.gifbigdrink.gifbigdrink.gifbigdrink.gif

I am sorry to say that I wasn't in town long enough to climb at Red Rocks. I did find a new meaning to Vegas and realized it wasn't SO bad. Cheap drinks, great night clubs that stay open until 5AM or longer grin.gif, tons of eye candy, warm weather, and lots of crap to see or do.

I was just down there a couple weeks ago for some field work, but did manage to climb one day at RR. Maybe it was spending so much time in the desert quiet but I thought LV was a grim place. Seemed to be a collection of everything I don't like including lots of fat people, smokers, noise, garrish advertising with lights. Seemed like a big frikking shopping mall for adults with an emphasis on gambling, over-eating, and over-drinking, and bad entertainment.

We went into town for the hotel only and then decided to sleep under the stars at the field site after a few days of the glitz. Yuk! hellno3d.gif

i understand completely. i find the place depressing (same w/ reno btw). hitting the cheap buffets is all that i do there. too bad red rocks is right next to it.

Did like the desert field work and some of the locals we ran into way out in the hinterlands. Real old timer desert rats with a great knowledge of the place. RR was fun but had to find the shady areas.

If you like the cite of LV though, well I don't give a rip. About as interesting as Alderwood Mall for me.

I like Vegas when I'm winning, otherwise I hate the place.

I just wish they didn't keep moving it closer to the mountains when I'm not looking. I mean, the next time I head down there will be no doubt a casino on the 5th belay of Epinephrine, and gated condomundo in the headwaters of Oak Creek. thumbs_down.gif
