Coopah Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 No it won't ...ever hear of Firefighters? It's a new thing they started a few days ago... While it is tough to fight wild fire...protecting structures won't be quite as hard. Quote
Alpinfox Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 Fire has crept over the ridge above Klipchuck Cmpgrnd but it started raining last night, so maybe it will stop. I'll post some pics of the fire soon. Quote
Alpinfox Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 These images taken from Hwy20 near Klipchuck campground the night of Sept 7, 2003. They don't do the spectacle justice... Some of those flames are over 100ft tall! Quote
Coopah Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 Great pics! Too bad it has to be tearing up a great forest Quote
Scott_J Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 I hate forest fires. I was wandering near condor Buttress after the fires when I happened upon the bodies(what was left)of two deer. I was moved by the experience. I took the remains and covered them but kept the little fella's one antler that did not burn. Sad experience for me. Even though I hunt 'em and eat 'em I respect 'em. I know it is part of nature, but it always makes me sad to see a forest burn Quote

carolyn Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 How far is the fire from the town of mazama? Quote
EWolfe Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 I heard yesterday that the smoke is thick enough that you can't see Goat Wall from town Quote
mattp Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 On Friday morning the smoke was so thick in parts of the upper Methow Valley that you could literally not see more than a couple hundred yards. Quote

Fuck its been a tough summer. Hot, and dry. The fish are stressed because of low and warm water conditions, trees are dropping leaves early from lack of rain, animals are having a tough go with low water conditions. Having to travel farther to water up each day. And all the fires...I hope we get a ton of snow and rain so we can build up a reserve for the following summer. Lets worship Heikka Lunta and get some bitchin weather in the Cascades. By the way click on this and you can see a pasty being made in the UP by a Yooper. http://www.pasty.com/index.html Quote
