It seems that winters last efforts are starting to peter out in this neck of the woods and ODOT started to plow out the small section of the cascade lakes highway near Dutchman Flat yesterday.

The long term forecast calls for temps to start warming considerably this weekend and for the rest of the month. The general feeling of the old timers around the resort is that this years snowpack, albeit close to average, will melt quickly this year.

So, set aside some time late april, early may for traditional south sister slogs, and lets hope the road is good to go in a week or so.

fwiw, Once the resort closes up, i'll move the cams, one will point right at south, and the other will show 3 sisters proper from the Pine Marten lodge.

if anyone wants to chip in to buy another cam i'll put it wherever they want. The real tasty ones i've started to buy cost about 1500, but allow remote pan/tilt/zoom and from my office you can zoom into the summit of south and watch people wank away

looks like odot just plowed the first 30 yards or so so "recreators" could have a place to park their RV's and then snowmo down the road

there isn't much snow on the road, it would take maybe 2 days to plow, but i think they won't open it until memorial again so the 'bilers can still have some fun.

Looks like the hwy got punched through yesterday. the gate is still closed at the bachelor cut off, but wouldn't be surprised if it was opened up this weekend.

wx is cooling off and more snow is possibly sat/sun though

even if it does open, skiing in the 3 sisters wilderness really isn't that much fun. everyone should go slog up adams and st helens instead, those are much more worthy destinations, and they have less cougards, and less oregon idiots like myself on them

Nice try Timmy, scaring everyone away from the Sisters. Ya can't have the place to yourself.

the usgs monitoring equipment on south sister went out a few weeks back, they don't have any current data about the uplift of south sister... HOT LIQUID MAGMA.... if anything, y'all should stay clear of this potential volcanic disaster... it could blow any minute evils3d.gif

Yeah, there is no reason anyone should be up there, cause the whole side of the mountain is bulging, the sno is starting to melt from the hot magma... and beside there was three puma attacks just last week... the sizmic activety is growing, the whole area is gonna be demolished any day... the_finger.gif

yes rather than remote sensing techniques the CVO has elected to simply observe the NW climbing community, who clearly will notice when an obscure, rarely-traveled area of the three sisters is rising centimeters over square kilometers

damn the ground feels hot here! yellaf.gifthumbs_up.gif
