mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Yes, Moran. I guess the "cadaver" gave it away? Quote
Dru Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 I think your shot is of the East face, you cannot see the North face, and Doug is on the left skyline. But who knows. Quote
dberdinka Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 The lake in the background (hard to see) and the dyke strewn pinnacle (teton-ish rock) on the right helped place it. What's with the cadaver? Is that a pun? Quote
Dru Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 How 'bout this one?   how come no one is guessing mt si or pilchuck or cougar anymorre???????????? i say it is all of them! Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 No pun, Darin. The day before we climbed the CMC route, somebody had fallen off and died. They came along with the body bag, and we carried out the abandoned camping equipment and the rope that had been left behind. Â Slappy's picture looks like it may have a pine in the foreground (hard to tell), and the trees in the background appear as if they may be east of the crest or in a slightly rainshadowed environment. I'm guessing Coquihalla maybe? Quote
slaphappy Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 (edited) Matt you are right, there is a pine directly behind "me" and it is on the eastern side of the crest. Not the Coquihalla though. Â *There is one subtle clue that should clue someone in to the location. Edited January 31, 2003 by slaphappy Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Slaphappy - I'm wondering why you have what appears as if it may be a sleeping pad on what looks like a relatively low elevation climb. Is this your clue? Quote
slaphappy Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Matt- That's not actually a sleeping pad, although we were carrying over. It is a low elevation climb that can easily be seen from the road but there is no direct "trail" to the formation and there is significant elevation gain to the base. It can be done in a day (rare) but we had another objective as well. Â *The clue has to do with the distinct change of color in the stone from the climber's left to his right. It is described as such in the Beckey Bible. Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 (edited) In that case, I'll guess Toketie. Exept you can't see it from the road. Doh! Edited January 31, 2003 by mattp Quote
dberdinka Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 I'm guessing (doing a lot of that lately) he's somewhere around Drury Falls. Jupiter Rock? If that's the case I'd love to hear a trip report. How was it? Quote
Dru Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 isnt that picture that G spotter posted, the Sweet Granite in Renton? Quote
slaphappy Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Matt you answered your own guess on Toketie. Darin I wish I could say it was Jupiter or Waterfall Column but it's not. Â Your both getting closer! Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 This spot has been enjoyed by more than one cc.com poster and the most prominent peak in the background is a popular day-trip at this time of year. Â Quote
crank_sloper Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Here is some Washington Ice for you to guess. Â Quote
j_b Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 the mole or something in the rat creek group  dberdinka: I climbed Jupiter column a long time ago and my recollection is that the rock is stellar albeit a bit grungy. I can't recall the climb we did but it was a 5.8 route. Lotsa potential. Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Sloper, the dog made it up there leashless but it was not the tooth. It is not near Snoqualmie Pass. Quote
slaphappy Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 JB- You got it, we are on the north face of The Mole. Incidently, Matt, we did head to Toketie after bivying on the plateau. Quote
gregm Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Here is some Washington Ice for you to guess. Â Â is that about a half mile east of the hairpin, on the south side of hwy 20? Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Slaphappy- I think you are right that it is probably very rarely climbed in a day. But that sounds like a fun outing. Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Gregm-With alders and what looks like pines, I'm guessing it is relatively low elevation on the east slope somewhere but I think it's be lower elevation than where you describe. Quote
