Kinda lets you know where their collective thinking lies, doesn't it?
  3. I have been "bull horned" off the crags, most notably Martian Tower (Butter Brickle) and Martian Slab (upper routes), on more than one occasion by LEO. Never got a ticket... yet. So in that case, bwrts's comments about choosing less visible crags might have been wise. By choosing less visible routes, like those on GCT or Dinousaur Tower, the ranger/deputy would have to hike in and find you to tell you to leave, and by then, he may be mad enough at you (after having to actually get out of his truck and walk a bit) that he would probably ticket you.

  7. were you calling him an abstract painting or attempting a racial slur? i think the pejorative for polish folks only has one "l" One "l" is correct, but there is only one "o", and no "c". As one who would know, it's spelled "Polak". Thank you.

  10. Am I missing something here? It was my understanding that we (climbers) purchased that sand castle with our donations/dues to the Access Fund, and the AF's legal efforts in that regard, back in 1991 or so. We then "gave" the area to the WA State Parks Department, not as land in fee simple for them to own and operate it as a revenue-generating State Park, but for them to "manage" it for us, since the AF, as a 501c3 corporation, couldn't do it for themselves. It would seem that now the WA State Parks has decided it belongs to them, to operate when and how they see fit... andyf, any comment here?
  11. Not really. My liner notes indicate that he wrote most of the lyrics, but collaborated on Young Lust, Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell (with Gilmour), and The Trial (with Ezrin). The album was produced by Waters, Gilmour, and Ezrin. Just noticed where Toni Tennille (can you say "Captain and Tennille"?) was one of the backing vocal voices.
  12. WHEN THE TIGERS BROKE FREE Pink Floyd 1982 Lyrics/Music: Waters Albums: When the Tigers Broke Free (single, 1982) Echoes The Final Cut (2004 remaster) Film/Video: Pink Floyd - The Wall It was just before dawn one miserable morning in black forty-four when the forward commander was told to sit tight when asked that his men be withdrawn And the generals gave thanks as the other ranks held back the enemy tanks - for a while And then the Anzio beachhead was held for the price of a few hundred ordinary lives And kind old King George sent mother a note when he heard that father was gone It was, I recall, in the form of a scroll with golden leaf and all And I found it one day in a drawer of old photographs hidden away And my eyes still grow damp to remember His Majesty signed with his own rubber stamp It was dark all around There was frost in the ground When the tigers broke free And noone survived from the Royal Fusiliers Company C They were all left behind Most of them dead The rest of them dying And that's how the High Command took my Daddy from me Lyrics Copyright: Pink Floyd Music Publishers Ltd.
  13. Mike, I just answered my own question from above... From the Pink Floyd HyperBase: emphasis added by sobo link My CD of The Final Cut is from waaaaaaaaaaaaay before 2004. More like 1983. Guess I'll have to buy it again...
  14. Thanks, Mike, for the quick response and beta. Was it ever released on an album when it originally came out, or was it released only as a single? I have a bazillion PF albums, both vinyl and CD, but it isn't on any of them. Edited to add: I just Googled the lyrics. Got that funky chill/tingle on the back of my head when I read them. :shudder: I want that tune!
  15. My sentiments exactly. BTW Jake, I haven't forgotten about your "smorgasbeerd"...
  16. OK, so I dragged out my CD of The Wall today. I haven’t had it in a drive for years, but listening to it made me think of something from way back when the movie came out, like, 25 years ago or so. For those of you that remember/have seen the movie, there is a scene (right before the song Comfortably Numb begins) where the young “Pink” is going through his mother’s dresser drawers and comes upon the trappings of his dead soldier father: the military cover, the medals, etc. Pink puts them on and views himself in the mirror. There is a song playing in the background which is not on the The Wall's CD soundtrack. I have never been able to find it on any medium other than the movie video. Some of the lyrics: "They held the Anzio beachhead, At a cost of a few hundred more lives." (some more lines I can’t remember) "…and that’s how the Royal Command Took my Daddy from me!" The scene changes to outdoors along an English canal, with Pink running to care for his "pet" rat, and Comfortably Numb begins. So my question is: what is the name of that song, and where can I find it?

    Photo Caption?

I think Carl's "Warren Harding Gift Pack" was the funniest (especially with the tagline about adding wine), but then, I'm from that era, and it resonates with me. Honorable Mention goes to NTM (French Trad Rack).
  22. from the article: If he's such a lousy fuck that even his wife won't sleep with him, don't you think he ought to get more than a year for screwin' the pooch? Horrors, think how Fifi must feel right now...
