obsure I used to be the "gong guy" in a HS orchestra. They had to let me go, though, because my timing was seriously suxor. I was always banging the damn thing in the middle of Für Elise.

I went to the Saturday 2:00pm performance and was equally thrilled, except for one thing... That dirty whore of a percussionist didn't play the gong leading up to the last O Fortuna!!! He warmed it up and looked like he was getting ready to hit it, then he just decided not to! Did he screw it up for the night performance too? I think it may have been a retaliation towards the audience who insisted on clapping after nearly every soloist finished a section. Jeeperz, you'd think that we were a cultured bunch with comments such as this.

Not to be an asshole or anything like that, but how do you and your colleagues think they entombed those mummies way up there in the cliff in the first place? I know the question is a lot like "How did the Egyptians build the Pyramids?", "How did the Anasazi build their cliff dwellings?", and "How did the Druids get the table stones on the top of Stonehenge?" and innumerable similar questions of historical significance. Just curious if you have a hypothesis as to how they might have dealt with the shitty rock sitmo.

HOR- My wife and I did that same thing. Trade off nights as to who gets up in the middle of it. Schedule it around important job meetings, in-laws coming to town, climbing trips, etc. GAWD am I ever glad those days are over. Now, if I could just keep the kids out of our bedroom for 15 minutes at a time. There is no better birth control known to mankind than the sound of a toddler whimpering outside your master bedroom door... Gotta love 'em all the same, tho...

Interstate freeways can actually exceed that grade, and sections of many of them do. Look at I-84's Dead Man's Grade coming down into Pendleton for a local example.

Although I haven't seen this "new" trail, I suspect that the NPS is targeting an 8% grade, as that is the maximum grade allowed for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance. Since these trails are on lands owned/managed by the federal government and/or built with funds from the feds, any new construction must be in compliance with this Act. In my line of work, I've been dealing with this Act since it became law back in 1990. But since about 2000, it's been really hitting the fan everywhere. You can thank Jeff Pagels for getting the ADA shitter at Camp Muir as a result of his ADA lawsuit.
