We were given an off-brand pack for the first kid, which turned out to be a pretty damned good carrier. For the second Thing, we bought a Kelty (can't remember the exact model, but will look them both up when I get home). We aren't nearly as pleased with the Kelty as we are with the no-name brand. The no-namer rides better, it's easier on and off, and it carries way more shite for the youngling than the Kelty can. YMMV.

However, if I assume that you've got step-ins, then are you talking about a Grivel-style attachment system, as shown below? If so, follow Mikester's advice.
