  1. Statistically, it's true. Lars, you might want to look at some facts before you post the tripe the gun lobby loves: http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/tandi/ti61.pdf Note - Murder rate per hundred steadily increasing in Australia for the past 50 years.
  2. The CEO is chosen by the board. I don't think will would be. Now he has a chance of being on the board. But good luck getting on the ballot. I tried to last year. You need the signatures of 1% of the active membership of REI (that's about 10k signatures). Oh, and you need to get that many in an elapsed time of 2 months. And there's a limit to the number of member nominated board members Or you can be nominated by the board.
  3. Ballmer & Wife donated $2k each to W too. And Steve's listed as CEO. http://www.fundrace.org/neighbors.php?type=name&lname=Ballmer&fname=&search=Search+by+Name
  4. Fairweather- WHAT RECORDS? That's sort of the core of this issue - a couple of dental records to show he was on base. A bunch of contradictory testimony to his being there or not. Let's not forget noone's stood up to claim the $10k with proof of his being there. Again - what proof? Or are you going to believe Rush - who's questioning whether someone really deserves 3 purple hearts?
  5. He was at least in college. As opposed to Bush. Who couldn't be bothered to show up for his National Guard commitment. Is Clinton the Nixon for the Democratic party? The bogeyman they drag out to scare little kids?
  6. Hmm. Organizing and agitating for a cause he believed in? As opposed to ... drunk driving into trash cans and picking fights with his father. To me Kerry (& Gores) approach to Vietnam speaks much. When their country called(well, they called their country), they showed up. As opposed to someone....
  7. Anybody heard more about this one? Kenny Kramer from the NWAC says there was a huge natural avalanche that started as a 5-10' slab near 10,000' on the Newton Clark Glacier yesterday (April 22nd). The avalanche appears to have been related to a recent storm cycle. A portion of the avalanche is said to have run into the ski area of Hood Meadows. The top of the ski area is at 7300' according to the Hood Meadows website. Anyone from Oregon have pictures or more information? _________________ Gary Brill Avalanche Education/Professional Member AAA/Affiliate CAA/Level I & II Classes http://www.telemarktalk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=19108

  9. He's even with Bush in the polls Note that Africa hasn't received the billions yet, it was "promised"
  10. Go there with a clear sky & full moon, sometime near midnight. You'll be alone in the meadow, surrounded by the awesome. The morning power place is after the caffeinated buzz has worn down, and your in the groove of going someplace - whether it's skinning, climbing, hiking or driving. Motorin' Actual places: BWCA Adirondacks Wind Rivers Coast Range
  11. They spent enough time on the Grand to build the Enclosure - it's use is unknown however.
  12. I'd even include people at sunrise. Early morning the worlds peaceful, and everyone seems willing to let everyone be. Early Morning's especially cool with the car pointed at a far away destination filled with the unknown
  13. Someone hasn't been to the OMC or Mountain Shop websites! The DAS is nice - I dig the Cloudveil model more.
  14. Are you ever going to contribute to this website?
  15. Betalight
  16. The Ice Pack has a frame sheet. I've used it a half dozen plus times for trips of that lenght and never had a problem The Shadow Pack (Ice Pack replacement) has a more developed suspension.
  17. Saving up for the Titanium Latte set?
  18. You know, a tele boot - as opposed to overweight, mishapen AT boots
  19. It's this kind of damage that comes quickly to resource managers attention, as well as the general public. Doolittle - if your going to rant about resource extraction - look into what goes into the 'puter your typing this on. That's a HELL of alot more nasty & toxic than a bolt. Or look at a cellphone, or a car,...
  20. 1)Protecting Leather Tele Boots, or as extra insulation of your regular climbing boots for colder temps 2)Most people don't know WTF they are 3)Here's the sizing chart: Gaiter size: Fits boot size: MEDIUM 39 - 42 LARGE 42.5 - 44.5 X LARGE 45 - 47.5 To put them on, open up the zipper. Stick the boot in the gaiter as if it's your foot, so the toe of the boot matches the toe of the gaiter. Pull & Pry like hell to get it on. Bicycle tire irons help. Prepare to lose alot of knuckle skin.
  21. If you want an extreme example of the damage climbers do to trees climb at Carderock Maryland. 50+years of after work climbing have killed just about every tree within 30ft of the cliftops. And the ones not yet dead are soon to be dead. Ugh!
  22. I'd prefer not. Everyone's had a bad experience at some shop at some time. The "this place sucks, they screwed me" shit gets tedious.
  23. You mean like webbing, fixed anchors, etc? I'm not into geocaching (never done it, not much desire), but be careful where you point fingers....
  24. Alpinist 0 - downloadable from their website http://www.alpinist.com/issues/Alpinist_0/ has info on Patagonia. Gino Buscaini's "Patagonia ...some other junk in Italian" is supposed to be an excellent reference if you don't mind the Italian. I'm probably ordering a copy soon...
