  1. The Escape Route in Whistler.
  2. cj posted a pic of an AT boot. Let's not even go there.
  3. OffPiste
  4. You have to read "Downward Bound" if you read "Camp 4". Roper's a bit of a sanctimonious prick at times.
  5. So's "modern" tele gear.
  6. Good luck actually using the duct tape after it's been on the ski poles more than a month! Much less that to have enough duct tape to treat anything more than a small cut you'd have a monstrous bulge.....or putting duct tape directly on a wound.... Roll it around a water bottle instead - you get more, and it stays in better condition.
  7. If your ski waist is less than 70mm or so, the Sk'Alp ski crampons work quite well. I think the new K2 riser is compatible with Dynafit crampons as well.
  8. The answer to the questions depends on how much training you have. Not much use bringing stuff you don't know how to use. That said: Bandaids SAM Splint Gauze & Athletic Tape Pain Pills Antihistamine Needle & Matches Moleskin
  9. Sabertooths work well, Grivel 2F's work alright. You can get more frontpoint with Sabertooth's.
  10. Fairweather- I don't know about Tacoma, but here in Portland, Lincoln High School (across the st from my Apt) replaced their track, to the tune of $1.2 million, entirely with private donations. Including $250k from one family I don't understand why people bitch about our education system. It's the one thing we're an undisputed world leader in, that can't be outsourced.
  11. Football Stadiums often end being a net gain for the University - both in direct $ from TV rights etc, and indirectly from increased alumni giving. The whole rock gym, super workout centers etc. is market forces at work (I thought you'd be in favor, Msr. Fairweather!) There are alot more schools for an increased population of students to choose from - they need to differentiate themselves.
  12. I've done 2 on the sled and 2 riding behind. Wasn't bad (sled started to loose traction occaisonally) - but 2 on, 1 towed would probably work a little better. Unless the rooster tail gets you, it's pretty fun. Are there such things as snowmobile demos?
  13. Send them to me and I'll put them on the Spectrophotometer. There aren't many materials that don't block a good bit of the UV spectrum.
  14. C'mon, the belt, suspenders, and a safety belt for the suspenders crowd needs a place to hang!
  15. Arc'teryx - The North Face of the 00's?
  16. Some acquaintances headed out yesterday. They were planning for a loooonnnnnnggg skin in. I went early may last year. It was a good 6-7 miles to Cold Springs (the summer start). Along a snowmobile travelled road (thankfully lightly traveled).
  17. OMC in PDX has a couple of baskets of Pins, Bashies, Z's and Hooks for $3 a piece. Mostly BD & Leeper stuff. They also have a bunch more stuff on sale (like Thermoflex liners for $70!)
  18. That's right. No one ever climbed WI, or new wave mixed in Sabertooths They're just one trick ponies. Sabertooths are great crampons.
  19. You sound like someone who flies Alaska/Horizon quite a bit... Too Much!
  20. From my altimeter watch, 7k for Trans-Pacific 747's, 5-6k for domestic flights CRJ-700/737/MD-80/Q200
  21. You forgot their contention (it lead the article!) that speculation in the oil market is also at a relative high. So add to the lists of reasons "rich capitalist pigs are milking you dry"

  23. Rigid Poles & Rear Skegs are the key design elements for Ski Patrol sleds (which handle quite well). I've begun experimenting on a little platic sled of mine - adding rear skegs w/ Aluminum angle, as well as reinforcing the top lip. I've yet to ski with it, will post bag when I do.
  24. I think they'll (rightfully) argue they already exist.
  25. That was my point. It don't cost much money.
