I imagine a climber that can lead a 5.15 after practice can probably walk up to any 5.13 out there and lead it on site. Using your example of hangdogging a 5.9 I'd agree they shouldn't call themselves a 5.9 climber. They are pushing their envelope though. If you keep pushing the envelope and climbing a lot in general you will get better. I'd agree that somebody who monopolises a route deserves a boo, but if they're out there trying to get better and climb harder loud cat calls are just plain rude.

Yep, other years with more snow it looked better, but you do face the traverse out at the end no matter what the snow conditions are. It could be cool

No, just the NW facing bowl, the southern slopes and the ridgeline headed north. I don't think it's a jump in, but I didn't look really close at it.

Trip: Highway 2 - Arrowhead Date: 1/3/2010 Trip Report: I kept hearing forecasts of rain, and avy conditions raised some questions, but I figured I better stop listening to forecasts and see for myself. All things considered JH and I decided to ski a route we new well, so we headed up Arrowhead. We found good stuff waiting for us. Chiwaukum Area This was our best view of the day. Summit Shot Powder is good! Things were still good in the upper clearcut Near the bottom of the clearcut we hit rain crust. The lower slopes are not often killer pow anyway, so it wasn't a huge loss to the trip. The rain crust was thick and icy on the logging roads out. Speed increases yet turning ability decreases providing an exciting and unnerving experience. In the end we decided this was a fast ride out on the boring logging road. Maybe I've skied this route too many times, but it was a fun day of skiing. Approach Notes: I guess I've taken advantage of a broken trail too many times since we broke trail all the way from the highway.

Here are some real numbers for you all 2009 Tree Accidents 59 fatalities 44 Injuries The above numbers are for non work related accidents Think about that and compare it to vehicle accidents. I don't have 2009 numbers, but in 2005 there were 43,443 fatalities related to driving. My advice is to take care when you drive to the crag/trailhead or after stopping off at a bar for a post climb drink.

Actually it's the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl. Don't ask, I don't think anybody understands the naming of modern bowl games. The only bad part is it's played at Bozo State. Bozo State does lead the WAC though.

I'm no hunter, but I've hung out with a few. The whole point is pursuit of an animal(s) in a natural setting not trapping a heard in an area with no escape then blasting with whatever weapon you like. Those, "hunters," should have their bows and guns taken from them. They can buy bb guns and blast empty beer cans on a fence post if they need the same thrill they were after.

I've connected with a few people over CC or via another internet site. I've never had a problem, and I've done a couple multiday trips with them. I always follow the rule. No matter how you meet somebody and talk about a long/hard climbing trip always go on a day trip first. Big trips are great, but I want to climb often. Hopefully your potential partner has the same attitude. It's easy to say something like lets go out to the crag/peak for the day and see how well we do climbing together at the end we can talk more about the big trip or either one of us can bail. Maybe a weekend trip is another thought. If you do that you can bail if your nervous and you're only out a couple days and a few bucks for expenses. Long trips far away require you to dedicate both time and money.

Right on. Things look a bit sketchy just as the music cuts out. -
Exactly, hiding racism behind laws aimed at protecting us is an old story.

The ski areas in CO have to cheat. The typical early winter patterns call for cold temps and snow. That's all true. What they don't tell folks is the wind is usually pumping at and to the east of the Rocky Mountain crest during that period (November - January). High winds tend to blow the snow away They also create some sketchy windslabs and thus sketchy avy hazard.

Here are some stats from prohibition days Organized Crime and Prohibition Criminals exploiting an illegal market is not something new.

It seems to me they should be given the right to restrict up traffic to a couple spots. Maybe it would make them feel better even if they shouldn't even get that right. In any case I too like downhill areas for practicing downhill skiing form, but past that they ain't that interesting. Ok they do provide a place to ski on sketchy avy days, and maybe a spot for a drink after skiing, but that's about it.

I'm sure I would have heard about it when I was spending time in the region in the 80s. If you haven't already go talk to Mike Beiser at the UI Outdoor Program. He knows the local history pretty well. -
yes.

Nice photos. It's a cool area I do have to quibble a bit with this though It's actually quite a bit more south than east South to Lewiston then SE to Grangeville then east. Anyhow way to go -
