    IB

One of these day's I'll actually have to climb IB. I figure the main reason to climb it is so I can get into Spray arguements about whether IB or Condo Buttress is the most overbolted.

  3. I did a solo climbing trip to the Canadian Rockies in the mid 80s. I took the train to Lake Louise then hitched up to the campground near the Athabasca glacier. After a day or two I managed to find a climbing partner with a van. We did a few climbs over a couple weeks, and he gave me a ride back to Lake Louise so I could catch the train back to Vancouver. I believe passenger rail doesn't travel Vancouver to Calgary any more. Only Vancouver Edmonton.

From what I can tell by a search Stevens Pass is privately held, so no Interwest.
  6. I remember seeing the picture of Dave Cheesmond in the low dihedral. I think it was from the original AAJ report, but that's about it. Those photos are rad

  9. Just a guess, but baking soda or lime might be the cheap solution. You'll have to climb Rainier to test this. When you get your permit tell the ranger you're climbing the mountain to test out your poop bag system.

    Avatar

I'm not sure about this Avatar movie. I'd agree the best films came from the 80s or earlier. It's really hard to beat stuff like this [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p2FqXjHOz4 Or this [video:youtube] Isaac Hayes rules

  14. Head up HWY 20. It's open to Silverstar creek from there you can ski towards Silverstar mountain or head up the highway till you see something cool. The Cutthroat trailhead area has good skiing. A snowmobile, or a buddy with a snowmobile is a nice way to eliminate road walking

I'm curious what kind of climbing Raindawg actually does these days. I don't expect him to climb test pieces, but from what I can tell climbing is something he used to do. Exploring for ancient artifacts is a cool interest/profession, but what about the good old Cascades? Obviously he has a strong opinions on climbing, but what about an ascent of Das Tooth, his namesake Raindawg, or some cool trad climbing?

I've heard a bunch of stories from my dad about climbing tactics used through the 60s. If we're going to be pure trad climbers then shoulder stands are one of many tactics that are pure.

    Palin on FOX

Palin on Fox is a good thing. It'll either rub in what a bunch of idiots most republicans are, or it'll be a driving force that'll make the republicans reform their party. In the old days the Republicans had folks like Dan Evans. The guy was pro environment and actually fiscally conservative. Lots of folks from both parties admired him, but that was then. In the modern time you could never trust a Republican to do more than pay lip service to monetary policy, and the oil lobby pays them to screw the environment.

Dwayner and Pope could/can get a big group consensus if they stick to a couple core issues Don't Bolt Cracks Don't overbolt routes (bolt every 3 feet) I don't see them doing that though.

I'm younger than you. I'm pretty sure you're no fan of rap either. Actually I like, "Rap," or Hip hop... Going through my cd collection I quickly come up with [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPWhxS0Phlg and [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm7dZe0b8Rk Of course I like this guy too. [img:center]http://www.austinchronicle.com/binary/fe4a/Hank_Williams_autograph.jpg[/img] So, you're totally wrong on that one. What else are you wrong about? I'm thinking it's your attitudes and misconceptions about modern climbing. From your description of your ascent of R.O.T.C. you're a hang dogger. Maybe you didn't use the word, "Take!" but you told your belayer you needed to hang and rest.

You know, Pope did solo Brass Balls. That's a cool thing to do. The question I have is how may times did he rehearse the climb prior to his solo? I'm sure there was no hang dogging done, but any climbs prior to the solo were rehearsal climbs. Why are Popes rehearsals different from the ones he complains about?

Hello friend. Your boy seems like a good sport, and a splendid climber. While you're living vicariously through his accomplishments, remember to keep a helmet on him. And please don't teach him to talk like a rap artist (like his dad). Let me get this straight, talking like a rap artist is a bad thing? You're showing how behind the times you are old fella. Aren't you getting on towards retirement age? I'd say a lot of folks out there can onsite or solo things much harder than the stuff you've done. I'm not dissing you're Brass Balls solo. The point is lots of climbers use a combination of top roping rehearsing and practice to get themselves to a skill level where they climb really hard and can onsite tons of stuff that neither you or dwayner will ever have a shot at. All you can do is sit back in the rocking chair and diss the young uns Climbing hard takes time and practice. If we really want to be pure by your standards then even modern ropes impact nature and the environment. We should all revert back to hemp ropes ehh?
  24. Nice pictures I went in a couple times in the 80s to do that traverse. We barely got any views of St Nicholas since our trips were during sketchy weather, and we never made it past the peak.
