I've had the same problem. I use program software to convert images to an appropriate size for the web. When I try to upload them to CC I get errors like you describe. My files are gif format. I even tried one other format, but no luck. Recently I've loaded pictures to Picasa then used the images on CC. That works.

Trip: Blanca Lake - Columbia Glacier and peak above Blanca Date: 5/8/2010 Trip Report: After talking to people about Blanca Lake, skiing, and access I decided to go there. In mid February tanstaafl and I skied towards the lake. If nothing else we figured we would get first hand knowledge about the area and the approach to the lake. We hiked then skied as far as Virgin Lake. White out conditions got the best of us then. The descent to Blanca from Virgin lake didn't look straight forward, but I did get enough views to be psyched for a return trip. A few friends brought up the subject of Blanca, and I jumped at the chance. I figured I'd at least get to the lake. Recent snow conditions make me a little nervous. The road in was snow free. Our group of 8 started hiking with skis and boots on packs. After gaining elevation we found enough snow to switch to skiing a ways before Virgin Lake. An icy sidehill route took us the rest of the way to Blanca Lake. Approach Skiing [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-ecaz4QF2I/AAAAAAAAAas/8zsMRWicME4/s512/1-Hike--Up.gif[/img] First views of peaks above Blanca Lake [img:center]http://lh5.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-ecbh8nfAI/AAAAAAAAAa0/AAPLwKSt9mY/s512/4-Columbia-first_view_Panor.gif[/img] At the lake we saw lots of evidence of recent slides off cliffs. After some talk we decided we could cross the lake then head up the center of the valley keeping close to the bottom of the U shape. Eventually we figured we should stop and talk more about route selection and avalanche risks. Skiing across the lake [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-eccLrLwfI/AAAAAAAAAa8/9mJr8xmKcuI/s720/7-Blanca-Lake-Traverse_Pano.gif[/img] Looking up valley. At that point we could see the top of Columbia Peak. There was an obvious crown of a slab fracture near the top of Columbia, and a ton of debris a couple hundred yards ahead of us. Temperatures that day were warming, and we got to see some cool point release slides coming off cliffs at the edges of the valley. I didn't get my camera out fast enough for the best part [video:youtube] At that point we all decided skiing back to the lake was the smart move. We also saw a slope with glades of trees near the outlet for the lake. That looked like a safer ski slope. Views are great at Blanca, but after hiking all that way getting some turns in was a priority. High Point [img:center]http://lh5.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-ec67Uy4EI/AAAAAAAAAbE/tslZBSuo1Lk/10-Group-Shot.gif[/img] Sure enough we found a nice slope for skiing. As we skied up for our second run a new batch of weather moved in. Warm weather was replaced by flurries of snow Looking back at run #1 while hiking towards #2 [img:center]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-ec7RjT66I/AAAAAAAAAbI/FgA14-tHEL4/s512/11-Columbia-Glacier_Panoram.gif[/img] View of Hubbart Peak from our high point [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-ec7xWk_SI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/vTg1Q6ZcLew/14-Vesper.gif[/img] This slope provided the best skiing of the day. Not bad ass, but you can't have everything. [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S-ed0NHzIKI/AAAAAAAAAbY/CfJUXRBhkHc/16-Descent.gif[/img] From there we skied back up the sidehill to Virgin Lake then headed down the trail to our cars. The area is cool, and well worth a trip. In better conditions there are some great lines to ski. Approach Notes: The route between virgin and Blanca Lakes is the tricky part. Stay too high and you run into cliffs. Too low and you end up in trouble (Troublesome Creek).

Current Avi condition s in the Sister's range?
AlpineK replied to i_like_sun's topic in the *freshiezone*
Nowhere near At Washington Pass we found an icy spring crust with 2 inches of new snow on top. We could produce small slab fractures with the new snow we found. Since then new snow has piled up some more. The next day it was warmer. On sun facing aspects point release avalanches would go. It's a long way between the Sisters and WA pass, but an icy spring layer with new snow on top could be bad. -
How about Los Suns Uniform Change

White outs on the Muir snowfield can be bad. It's a wide snow slope. Travel off the correct bearing for long enough and chances of running into crevasses escalate.

Trip: Washington Pass Area - Kangaroo Ridge loop and Frisco to Lake Ann loop Date: 5/1/2010 Trip Report: David Parker and I left Seattle Friday afternoon and headed towards Mazama with thoughts of skiing. On the property, one car and tent were already set up. Apparently, we had missed the prefunction events. The skiing crew describes snow conditions as variable. Eventually a couple more people returned from their prefunction climbing Prime Rib on Goat Wall. They had had a long day. Climbing was good, but unsticking rap ropes on the route added time to their day. We talked around the campfire and picked our ski route. New ski routes are a good thing. At the 2009 Ski In we skied Willow Creek and looked over at Silverstar to the Northeast. Upper Willow Creek had good skiing, and the north side of Silverstar had good skiing. Why not mix the two. Other folks arrived. Some wanted in on our plans, but others had different ideas for Saturday. Saturday morning we positioned vehicles. One at Silverstar Creek and the other at the hairpin turn east of Washington Pass. There were five in our crew. Since I and one other member of the group are part of Cascade Backcountry Ski Patrol, we even had emergency care. We did not need emergency care thankfully, but it was there should all hell break loose. The ski up revealed some of the variable snow waiting for us. Wind packed powder in some spots on top of an icy spring crust. There was a mix of gear in the group. Never the less everybody ended up booting the last section to the notch. At the notch, the wind was pumping. We were all decided we did not have enough time to finish our originally intended route. Debate ensued. Skiing back down our uptrack was an option, but we all wanted something else. Eventually we decided to ski down a ways then traverse to Snagtooth Ridge. From there we would be on familiar territory since we would then be in Willow Creek. Liberty Bell Group [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dHbPeCFI/AAAAAAAAAVc/-RYlEv0UL_8/s912/4-Liberty-Bell-Group_Panora.gif[/img] Looking back to our high point on Kangaroo Ridge [img:center]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dH5MNP5I/AAAAAAAAAVg/Tkyxzew-au4/5-Back-towards-Kangaroo-Rid.gif[/img] Gardner Mountain [img:center]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dITO_eLI/AAAAAAAAAVk/4KIhACE_ucM/6-Gardner_Panorama1-copy.gif[/img] Silverstar [img:center]http://lh6.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dI_9LbKI/AAAAAAAAAVo/ioJOKtYu8PE/s912/9-Siverstar-from-Willow-Cre.gif[/img] 2009 Ski In high point [img:center]http://lh6.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dJQ5pChI/AAAAAAAAAVs/7wO_vBWPUaA/10-Notch-for-2009-Ski.gif[/img] Skiing down was challenging due to the variable snow. We even reached a point where descent looked possible, and two of us started descending. Part way down the slope I got an uneasy feeling about cliffs below. Eventually booting back to the crest seamed like the safe move. Backtracking took a bit, but soon we followed the other smarter people’s tracks down. Below the section we bailed on, we saw a few lines that would have gone, but figuring that out without a preview is not easy. Willow Creek [img:center]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98drScbbDI/AAAAAAAAAV4/yQwyaqHf5M0/12-Willow-Creek-Skiing-2.gif[/img] The rest of the ski was uneventful. Snow conditions in the trees were better than they had been in 2009. A river crossing and a skin up lead us to the road. One team member hitchhiked to collect one of our vehicles. Wine Spires [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98drvM5C9I/AAAAAAAAAV8/fmtvUMbIQOY/s912/14-Wine-Spires_Panorama1-co.gif[/img] Silverstar [img:center]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dsWu3lzI/AAAAAAAAAWA/KWKfT3tVF8Y/s912/15-Wine_Silverstar_Panorama.gif[/img] Map of the route [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98f3VwKPPI/AAAAAAAAAW4/kJCncmrYdTE/s576/Kangaroo-Willow-Loop.png[/img] The campsite [img:center]http://lh6.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98dtD5ejsI/AAAAAAAAAWE/eT0HCxER8Fk/s912/17-Ski-In-Camp_Panorama2.gif[/img] More folks arrived Saturday night. A few skied the Birthday Tour, and one group had dropped the couloirs on the north side of Mt Hardy. Sunday We were kind of beat after our Saturday ski, so we picked a loop to ski at Rainy Pass. At the crack of 10 AM, we left Rainy pass and skied to Rainy Lake. From there we followed a ramp to a plateau then skied to a high point on the ridgeline west of Frisco. Near the top of our climb [img:center]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98ecmzFHII/AAAAAAAAAWI/EpHWyB-Jui4/20--Upper-Frisco_Panorama1-.gif[/img] Cutthroat, Whistler, Silverstar,... From there we skied west to the ridgeline over Lake Ann (East of). POWDER [img:center]http://lh5.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98fTCAd2fI/AAAAAAAAAWc/v0llwo5wQQE/s576/25-Monika.gif[/img] View back to our high point on Frisco Ridge [img:center]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98fTkUaxvI/AAAAAAAAAWg/kaJx9SyWOPs/28-Back-to-Frisco.gif[/img] A cornice at the top of the ridge made us both nervous and talking about hucking it. Eventually we managed to find a way around it, but the warm temperatures were messing with the new snow. We triggered a couple point release avalanches near the ridge crest. Eventually with careful route selection and good communication, we made it down to Lake Ann. From there we followed the creek bed out and to our vehicles on HWY 20. Looking up from Lake Ann [img:center]http://lh5.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98fUQwsEGI/AAAAAAAAAWk/gBqe9vROVA0/s576/30-Descent-to-Lake-Ann.gif[/img] Sketch of our route (Red is up, blue down) [img:center]http://lh6.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S99O7T4NvuI/AAAAAAAAAZA/8YO9rTUcD04/s576/Frisco-Loop1.gif[/img] Party moves to Rainy Pass David Parker, Dave Perkins, and Monika Johnson [img:center]http://lh5.ggpht.com/_rxgbPHdbZ9I/S98fU9ieqJI/AAAAAAAAAWo/rco5wPFp910/32-End-of-Ski-In.gif[/img] Ski In 2010 provided fun times and fun people. We did not do everything we talked about doing, but we had a blast doing what we did. Gear Notes: Snow sliding stuff Approach Notes: A big heat wave could be a bad time to be in the mountains right now.

There will be skiing on Sunday!

Dave Parker and I are heading over to Mazama after noon today. If you need directions send me a PM, and I'll try to respond. If you have firewood bring a few pieces.

Probably no chance of that. I quizzed my dad on that one. Apparently you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get a peak named. He said there was a long process people went through to get Mt. Spickard named what it is. Anything easily visible from a distance was named early on. Spickard benefited from being in a remote location.
-
I'll have to talk to my dad. He'd go hiking on mellow trails with Duke and other old time climber buddies. Just a few months back was the last time. Duke was a great guy.

GPS coordinates for route of Wapta Traverse
AlpineK replied to mountain-sepp's topic in British Columbia/Canada
I've heard the new Bow hut is nice. The last time I was there (80s) it was a nasty quonset hut. We were going to traverse the Wapta, but instead spent 3 days sitting in it and doing short ski runs to stay warm. We then drove to Lake Louise and had a in a nice warm bar. -
Possibly Chrome has changed things. I used it for a bit, but I was annoyed at the way it would not display pdf files.
-
I've talked up Ski-In with folks that are part of Cascade Backcountry Ski Patrol. I think there will be 5 other folks coming to the event.

Sometimes conditions on snow can be really deceiving. On one of my earlier climbing trips I descended soft snow, but found out there was solid ice under it. I fell while trying to retrace a few steps. I had an ice axe and went into proper self arrest form, but on solid ice the ice axe was of no use beyond giving me some control of my angle of slide. Eventually I came to a stop on snow with no ice under it. There was no skiing involved in that. No matter what kind of axe you have they won't always stop you.

Scott Baio ain't that interesting. If you want good trailer park entertainment stick with the best. [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-p-APVHCo8

Yep Serpentine Arete is the climb. It's fun. Serpentine does have more scrambling then Backbone Ridge.

We've got 5 volcanoes. We could take out the Midwest and East Coast.
