Ah yes, It's a sure sign of spring when we have this discussion. If you do a search, you'll find a few threads on this subject on cc.com. I ski unroped on glaciers all the time. I'm sure I would rope up if the conditions were total sketch; however just try skiing roped up once and you'll learn how hard and unfun it is. It really really helps to have a lot of glacier travel experience. If you don't you should rope up a lot more often.

The North face of Robson from Berg Lake Up high on the Berg Glacier On this climb we got th the schrund on the north face, but it was too hot to climb the route. I've posted some photos of a successful ascent of the Wishbone Arete in the photo gallery.

I took a 40'er on the Flying Buttress on Mt Meeker in CO. We got off route on the climb, and I was underclinging on this roof when a chunk of rock I was holding on to gave way. I fell head first with the rock next to me till the rope came tight. I slammed back into the wall and cut my face. I was a bloody mess, but I managed to climb the pitch shaking and hangdogging like hell.

There's a nice gully that drops onto the Nisqually from the Muir snowfield. It really makes the ski down I skied it the last time I was at Muir, which was Muir on Saturday.
