Best of NC Wilderness besides Picketts, Ptarmingan
AlpineK replied to johndavidjr's topic in North Cascades
Rahm is not too far from the road, but if you're a Yankee it takes a long time to get there since you've gotta go to Canada and drive to Hope and then come back down to the boarder. -
Poll: Would you rat on a Wilderness Power Driller?
AlpineK replied to Lambone's topic in Access Issues
I thought we were only talking about issue 1 here? Maybe I am wrong but hand-drilling bolts in the wilderness seems almost a non-issue, same as leaving a nut or a cam on a route. I mean, "it happens" but is hardly a threat to access? How were those bolts at Alpental placed? And I don't really care if it's technically just outside of a designated wilderness boundary...it's still two miles from a road. You're all into the letter of the law when it comes to power drills violating the rules of wilderness yet you're willing to stretch the wilderness boundary 2 miles past it's legal limit when it suits you. -
I more or less ski on Dynafit tourlight bindings all the time(that's at ski areas too). I've got them mounted to some K2 skis, and I use Dynafit boots with a stiffer Garmont liner. I've found that my present set up is more burly than my old set up with Fritchi bindings (I cracked the toe plate on those). I bought my set up with long tours in mind. It's true that it lacks the weight and rigidity to be a great ski area set up, but I figure I'm spending my time in a ski area logging downhill practice time for the bc.

Yeah, I was thinking it might be a little cold and wet for Chimney. I'd be really like to get back up there one of these days. Thanks for the info.

I'm headed to Cour d'Allene for the last week of September. I was going to try and get in a little climbing while I'm over there. Is there a good guide I can pick up for Chimney Rock, Dishman? Also I seem to recall that there's basalt climbing near Post Falls and bouldering on Tubs hill. I'd apprciate any info. Also has anyone been climbing up at Chimney Rock recently? Am I nuts to think about climbing there next weekend? And how's the road up there?

Not really I'm just trying to make money off of cubical workers who dream of being around heavy equipment but don't have the 100K for that fancy truck.
-
No, but I've got a hoist on the back of the truck that can pick up big logs.
-
For $20 I'll give you a ride around Lake City in my FRR, and for $10 more I'll let you operate the dump.

The folks behind ski resorts are trying to make money. The ski area and the golf courses are just hooks for the real money making business which is selling real estate. How else would they jack up the price of land out in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately proposals like the Adams resort are a dime a dozen. I bet you don't hear a lot more about it.

I pay monorail tax on 2 trucks and 2 trailers.

Yes I agree Bush and his supporters are bent on turning the US into a totalitarian state.
-
From what I've read the folks backing the recall measure are from Seattle but not liberal. Come on up Fairweather I'll take you around town and show all the Bush yard signs. Which reminds me of a funny story. My employee and I were driving down I-5 to a job and saw some folks on an overpass waving Bush signs back a couple weeks ago. We both rolled down our windows and gave the Bush lovers the bird...they stoped waving at us

Ah Lambone I was around in 2001. All Cavey's attacks got deleted fairly fast and then he got banned for a while. In your case it's funny watching you throw a temper tantrum. You're doing a good job shooting yourself in the foot. Maybe we'll just let you keep making an ass of yourself.
-
Well are you going to leave or not Lambone?? If you're going to leave then quit posting.
-
You're going to quit. Anyone who says that, "I don't climb in Washington anymore and I never climbed at Darrington when I lived there; I don't give a fuck if they close the place down." is a tool of the highest order. You can't leave fast enough to make me happy. bu bye No Really: bu bye

Um Josh I hope you enjoy reading your posts from last night.
-
That reminds me of a funny story someone told me about chugging olive oil and the concequences...now who was that.

Yo Joseph. Maybe you should stick to the point instead of speculating. You don't have to do things the exact same way your partner does. There are plenty of stories out there of climbing partners who climb some crazy stuff while also having major disfunctional behavior going on. The main thing I'm worried about on a long climb is spending an unplanned night on route. As to accidents; they happen usually when 2 or more things go wrong at one time. Something going wrong includes personal decisions as well as random chance. Like I said above I try and minimize my fuck ups by doing one thing at a time and focusing on the one task I'm doing. I don't choose a partner by finding someone who does things the same way I do. I just look for someone competent who I'm not likely to kill if I'm forced to spend a week in a tent with.

Let's break down Dr. Don's first post. So Don gives us a bullshit sandwich. Lies and bullshit sandwiched between 2 statements that everbody seems to agree with. So what are you going to do Don? post another one of your stupid pictures???
-
Being a lefty nobody racks the way I like I'd agree with chuck and the capt'n. Just rerack the way you like. It ain't life or death. On a long climb what is the most important is constant motion. You should always be doing something. Focus on one task, and when you're done immediately start a new task.
-
Do you have any info you can point to? That would suck if they did that.
-
Shit man I offered to pay Don about $100 to climb a 5.13, and all I got was hot air.
-
Um...let's all take a deap breath and try and relax.
-
I could go on, but instead I'll just repeat what RuMR said.

You may have hit on something there. Cracked needs to ski in the summer a lot cause when there are lots of skiers out in the winter people laugh at him.
