There are lots of things that due to their, "cultural significance," are deemed worthy of public support. The Opera, Ballet, Symphony, Seahawks, ect are all examples of businesses (they all sell tickets) that recieve some form of public support either through outright grants or use of public facilities. All those things are part of our culture, and they are some of what bring us together as a community. I hate opera, and I'm not too into ballet other than the hot chicks yet I don't mind paying some tax dollars so we can have that in Seattle. I think the Sonics demands are excessive, but I also view them as a negotiating tactic. Lets face it do you really want the only team that has ever brought Seattle a championship to move to Bellevue and build another arena that will compete with Key Arena as a concert venue. The issue is complicated and deserves much more than Dave's one sentence pronouncement. PS Double E aren't you one of those glacier walking wankers...you suck too

No he's just responding to your knee jerk thoughtless post in kind. The last I heard it sounds like the Arena is going to end up being remodeled even if the Sonics leave. The reason being that even if it's just a concert venue they've still got to keep up with all the other concert venues or they won't have anyone paying to use the space. You're still going to get stuck with a bill Dave. PS as far as I can tell there is nothing about American culture you like Dave...maybe you should move to Europe where everbody is into soccer and formula 1 racing. Climb: Mt Snoqualmie-Slot Couloir Date of Climb: 2/12/2006 Trip Report: I was planning on working around the house on Sunday, but Jeff H called me up with tails of powder on North facing slopes at Crystal on Friday. Anyway we decided to head up to Alpental and ski the Slot Couloir. We boot packed past the waterfall and then skinned up the Phantom slide. The snow was hard and for the last quarter of the hike up we ended up boot packing. Unfortunately our dreams of powder were crushed when we started skiing down the icy couloir. The ski down ended up being a a excercise in focus...jump, stick edges, slide, jump... I looked up the Crooked Couloir when were down and noted a couple big ice buldges at the crux and signs that everybody had sidestepped past the hard part. The snow's pretty hard in the basin below the couloir. After hiking back up to the South side it became all about spring skiing. We skied some nice corn all the way to the waterfall. The snow at the waterfall was a little too soft, but we were soon back at the car. It wasn't everything I had hoped for, but it was a fun day out in the sun.

Yeah, i'd second that. I tried the PNW thing from '00 to '02 and I was "off keel" after that first winter ,for sure. My bro has lived up there for ten years and he loves the weather and has no effect on him. Hits some and misses others. Within a week of moving back to CO, the winter blues were gone and have never returned. Cured by sunshine. If you are one of those hit hard by it then you should really think about living elsewhere... in the sun. Yeah, Ya'll can feel free to move back to wherever it is you came from.

Some friends and I summited the eastern tower of the old bridge without a permit back a few years ago. The new bridge I don't know. What with all the fear of terrorists and such I don't think that's a good idea. Plus Lucky's working on the bridge, so it'll be years before it's safe enough to expose yourself to the chance of catching all the comunicable diseases he carries.

Lots of people ski up to Arrowhead thus traibreaking isn't ever so bad. Very few folks ski where we were.

Jeff H, Cman and I skied up on Nason Ridge today. We had a hard time breaking trail through the snow. Sking down you could make a turn when it was steep, but a lot of time even skiing 11s got you stopped with a huge pile of snow in front of you.

Actually, I was the Moderator the entire afternoon. When the RealJZ was rude, AlpineK started yelling at him. I calmed the entire situation, got in touch with Beth , and got us more beer. When the RealJZ was late, AlpineK told him to hurry, or else we were going to have to Budweiser Football Clydesdales Enumclaw the shit out of him. I put a happier face on the entire situation. Regardless of what Mattp thinks, I believe that yesterday showed that I am ready to become uber moderator. That's simply not true. I called up JZ and pretended to be Mike Holmgren and told him if he didn't show up to the bar pronto the whole Seahawk roster was going to bone him up the ass.
