[TR] Mt. Rainier- Gib Ledges Attempt 3/12/2004
Alex replied to girlclimber's topic in Mount Rainier NP
girlclimber and Aaron, hey this was a great trip report! girlclimber, I'd say you exercized not only good judgement, but your team had excellent mountain skills all the way around - slow pace...hey, its early season, so Aaron found out the hard way he needs to train a little you might consider looking around cascadeclimbers.com more often for partners if you want to climb with others besides your family...it may be hit-and-miss sometimes, but I've always had great experiences with the partners I've met through this board. hopefully your dad and others appreciate climbing (with you as) a strong and experienced climber -
the best ones by far are 1) one of your not-so-computer-savvy friends or family sending a form letter about Microsoft sending you 50$ if you just click this link for some reason or other because...hey...its Microsoft, and they have lots of money to give away!! 2) getting the same 7-year-old virus warning in e-mail for the umpteen millionth time, complete with ASCII Courier font, with everyone cc'ed because, hey, since they got the news from their friend, the virus must be real!!!

what a classic ambush. i'm all for getting bush and his cabinet out of power, but anyone can be ambushed like that and i think the tactic is sub-par for professional journalists stuff like that is like watching Janet's tit - fascinating, but tasteless.

In fact, I will be there! Hey, aLex with the big L on the forehead, in fact you weren't there. Yes its true! I am ashamed that I've let my bretheren drunk climbers down by failing to appear yet again at a Pub Club, one so close to my house, and this during one of those rare weeks that the wife was out of town. It really came down to a simple decision, though....stew with catbirdshit, or play Unreal Tournament.

truly classic. this post should be engraved in a piece of frozen poo and enshrined in the muir hut for generations of scot'teryx and catbirdseat offspring to gape at with awe and reverence

Hi. I have heard that quality bits matter alot. So I'd like to know if anyone has recommendations for which bits last longest for a Hilti TE-6-A and where to get them, as well as other hardware, for the best price. Thanks

I used to work at REI. I've also worked for many years for EMS. I found the experience as an REI employee both fun and horrowing at the same time. (Working for EMS was much better.) On the one hand you get to meet alot of people passionate about the outdoors, and who are doing lots of cool stuff! You try to give them the best service you can. Sometimes you dont know everything. On the other hand, I was making 5.25 an hour! I could not possibly make ends meet in the real world. My managers made around 20k to 22k a year. I am not sure how they made ends meet either. The good thing is outdoor retail sales people tend to take the shit more seriously than, say, someone at Payless Shoes. The reality is that you still don't retain particularly good help for a low wage - these are high school and college students, or part-timers on the weekend working for the discount, by and large. I still go to REI. However, my purchases there have gone down about 50% over the last two years, as I find other, better, places to shop - both locally and online. My purchases at REI these days are pretty much B93'ed items and really basic stuff like Nalgene bottles. I can get Clif Shots and Clif Bars cheaper at Trader Joes. I can get climbing equipment online and at MEC. I get real technical outerwear from shops like PMS, Patagonia, and FF. I get alot of items from CASCADECLIMBERS.COM Yard Sale! I get some things from Second Bounce, where it is invariably cheaper used, and still very servicable. Alex
