I loved Western. It has a better academic reputation than Central. I thought the quality of teachers at Western was far superior to the UW. The climbing was great, at least alpine climbing. Squamish was close enough to go to on the week ends and there was good bouldering for after school in town. I like Chuckanut sandstone.

Lithium are reportedly not available as AAA. I use my Petzel Micro with litum AAs in winter rather than my Tikka for that reaon.

We accessed the falls by taking the Denny Creek/Asahel Curtis exit and following it towards the Denny Creek Campground. The road is plowed only to a bridge from where it is neccessary to hoof it. It was about two miles to the falls from that point. If the road was plowed and open all the way it might be a 10 minute approach but count on more like 30 minutes or more on skis in the current conditions. If the main falls ever come in it would be a very cool climb.

I have used a variety of shell fabrics including Gore-Tex, Triple Point Ceramic, Cloudburst and Pre-Cip. My experience with these are that they function the same in terms of waterproof/breathability. My Precip jacket has been reasonbly durable, but I think the fabric is too delicate to use in pants for skiing/mountaineering /ice climbing. A partner shredded his quickly. Consider a pair of stretch woven pants such as Schoeller. I have found these to be very functional and durable. Some of the more weather resistant varieties (Schoeller Dryskin Extreme for example) are great for winter climbing or skiing.

Hmmm, the article does not say what Journal the research was published in nor does it give any idea of the 'statistical' tests used. Any time a round number like 100 times is bandied about, my bullshit meter goes off. I am very skeptical as to the validity of the study. And once again children, correlation does not equal causation.

So that is all well and good, but I still don't understand how they intend to prevent uphill traffic, even on the south side of the valley, at 4:00 or 5:00 in the am when many climbers head off. Sounds like this will more effectively prevent snowshoers, and parents with kids from accessing the trail.

Yeah, this is true. There is a statistically significant better chance of having clear weather during a full moon than during other phases of the moon. I have never heard about the avalanche hypothesis and I don't believe it. The moon does not exert a magnetic pull on the earth.
