I have to admit I'm pretty close to leaving basic research, which is really too bad because I'm pretty gifted at it and work hard and most of all enjoy it. I also expect to get paid though which is the rub. I recently flew from Seattle to Amsterdam with a large diameter coil bike lock in my carry-on. No problems in US security, but they took it in Amsterdam when I went through customs/security, and there was no way I was going to be able to put it in my checked luggage because it was in process.
