My guess is that the mainstream Republican party will distance themselves from Palin. I think that Hilary Clinton proved that polarizing figures are out of vogue. It'll be a slow process as to not anger the base that she so energized with her star power, but I suspect that there will be a re-direction of the party in the next two years.

Usually the DoD and State Department are free to spend their appropriations as they see fit. FWIW, Bush signed the latest Defense Appropriations bill with a caveat that it be concurred by the next president.

I'm guessing that he's hedging his bet on Obama winning. In the event that McCain wins, the materials being tested will go into the publicly funded construction of the new line of "Tvashie's Bomb Shelters". My guess is he's already been in prelimanary negotiations for the earmark.

If McCain wins then I guess Palin will be VP and Obama and Biden go back to the senate. Everything will pretty much be the same.

The Gun argument is no different than the abortion argument; a platform plank which will fire up portions of the base. The liberals use the abortion plank and the environmental plank the same way. People need to pull these planks out of their respective arses.
